About the Role
Public Media Network is seeking a Multimedia Reporter to produce compelling video stories and civic information that reflect the people places and experiences of Greater Kalamazoo. Through Amplify Kalamazoo youll help elevate untold stories spotlight local culture and solutions and connect community members with information that matters in their daily lives.
This role blends hands-on media production with community engagement and education. Youll not only create high-impact content - youll also design and lead workshops that empower residents to share their own stories through community journalism and civic storytelling.
This is a full-time position ideal for someone who is creative people-centered and excited to work at the intersection of media storytelling and community empowerment.
What Youll Do
Create Community-Centered Stories
- Produce video stories short-form explainers and news you can use that inform and connect people to civic life and community solutions.
- Record and produce regular media segments special features and digital updates.
- Curate and publish content across PMN platforms including streaming web social and newsletters.
- Center diverse voices and lived experiences often underrepresented in traditional media.
Lead Storytelling Workshops and amp; Community Training
- Design and lead training programs and workshops in community journalism and storytelling.
- Mentor and support community reporters youth media producers and citizen storytellers.
- Help participants develop skills in visual storytelling civic awareness and local information sharing.
Engage the Community
- Participate in community listening to surface story ideas and training needs.
- Build relationships with individuals neighborhoods and organizations to co-create stories.
- Represent PMN at local events forums and community gatherings.
Support the Team
- Assist with studio operations equipment checkout and member/volunteer support.
- Contribute to collaborative productions live meeting coverage and live event coverage.
- Track the impact of stories and training initiatives to inform future work.
What Were Looking For
- Strong video storytelling skills with experience in journalism documentary or community media.
- Ability to produce multimedia content independently from concept to final cut.
- Experience leading or facilitating trainings workshops or educational programs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for community-centered media and civic information access.
- Proficiency with editing tools camera/audio equipment and digital platforms.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Familiarity with Greater Kalamazooor a strong desire to engage deeply with local communities.
