Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buried Service Wire Technician licensed to perform telecom construction services in California. This role is responsible for the full execution of underground drop installations repairs and upgrades with the authority to pull permits self-perform supervise crews and ensure compliance with all state local and utility regulations. The ideal candidate has deep experience in outside plant (OSP) telecom construction operates with minimal oversight and holds valid California contractor licensing (C-7 or C-10).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and/or oversee the installation burial and testing of service wire (fiber or copper) from network terminal to customer demarc.
  • Ensure all work complies with NEC NESC and California building/electrical codes.
  • Secure permits and perform job walks as required by local jurisdictions or utility authorities. Operate trenchers vibratory plows and boring equipment for drop placement.
  • Supervise subcontractors or junior technicians on multi-drop or complex jobs. Coordinate with local utility marking services (e.g. USA 811) before excavation.
  • Complete and submit as-builts photo documentation and project closeout paperwork.
  • Act as company representative for inspections safety audits or site visits. Maintain and ensure the legality and compliance of all work performed under your license.
  • Follow strict safety standards and enforce best practices among crews.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active C-7 (Low Voltage) or C-10 (Electrical) California contractor license in good standing.
  • 5 -10 years of field experience in telecom or utility construction with a focus on underground service wire placement.
  • Ability to interpret complex utility maps permits and engineered plans. Experience managing or mentoring crews.
  • Familiar with Cal/OSHA excavation and electrical safety requirements. Proficient with trenchers boring tools locators and cable testing equipment.
  • Valid California drivers license and reliable vehicle (truck or utility van preferred).
  • Comfortable with travel within a regional territory.

Preferred Experience (a plus):

  • PG&E SoCal Edison AT&T or other utility contract work experience.
  • Familiarity with GO-95/GO-128 compliance (California-specific overhead and underground rules).
  • Experience in managing multiple permits and project timelines.
  • Able to bid or estimate small-to-mid-sized BSW projects.

Compensation:

Competitive pay (W2 or 1099) depending on license held tools/truck and crew capacity. Reimbursement for mileage permits and materials (if applicable). Potential for long-term program work or expansion into subcontracting capacity.
