Tandem Victorias peak body for family and friend mental health carers is seeking a dynamic and values-led Family Carer Policy Manager to lead our policy platform and advocacy strategy. This is your chance to be at the forefront of reform championing the voices of families carers and supporters in shaping the future of mental health services.
About Tandem
Tandem was established in 1994 and is proud to be the trusted voice of family and friends in mental health in Victoria. As the Victorian peak body with a sole focus on the needs and interests of mental health carers Tandems role is to provide leadership coordination and knowledge for the organisations and individuals who are working to improve outcomes for Victorian people living with mental health challenges their family carers and supporters. Tandem is committed to ensuring that the importance of the contribution expertise experiences and needs of family carers and supporters is recognised and addressed and that they will be essential partners in recovery service governance and delivery planning research and evaluation.
About the Role
This is a part-time (0.8 FTE) senior leadership opportunity and designated lived experience role where youll:
Lead Tandems policy development and advocacy efforts to influence government and sector-wide reform.
Embed lived experience perspectives in complex policy initiatives using best-practice codesign methods.
Represent Tandem at senior forums advocating for lasting change.
Lead mentor and empower passionate policy professionals.
Drive impactful collaborations across research advocacy and external stakeholders.
What Makes Me Ideal for This Role
We are looking for someone with:
Extensive experience in policy reform or advocacy in mental health health disability or social services.
Proven leadership in strategic policy development and stakeholder engagement.
A deep understanding of and lived experience as a family carer is essential.
Strong communication skills and an inclusive people-first approach to leadership.
Experience with codesign and evidence-based advocacy practices.
