The Agency of Transportation is seeking a District Technician to provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel and municipalities with regard to construction and maintenance of highways.
The work includes field inspections site visits and use of GIS tools for inspections of roadway assets such as culverts guardrails and roadway surfaces. The incumbent will assist with survey and design work for developing and administrating State and Federally funded construction projects. Additionally the District Technician will be responsible for responding to emergencies to assist maintenance personnel and/or municipalities with floods or other natural disasters which includes assessing roadway and bridge damage for FEMA FHWA local officials and State Emergency Management officials.
This is a dynamic position with a wide array of responsibilities which also includes assisting with safety compliance and training for District maintenance staff.

Duties are generally performed in an office laboratory and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds traverse rough wooded and steep terrain travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Out of state travel may be required.
Bachelors degree in engineering technology environmental technology surveying construction technology architecture construction management or related technical field AND one (1) year of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning surveying design inspection construction research and statistics testing investigation maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
OR
Associate degree in civil engineering environmental technology engineering technology surveying construction technology architecture or related field AND three (3) years of experience as described above.
OR
High school graduation or equivalent AND five (5) years of experience as described above.
OR
One (1) year as an AOT Technician II with the State of Vermont.
Some positions in this job class may require possession of a valid drivers license.
