Job Description

Arch Insurance is seeking a Programme Manager to manage and lead a series of interrelated large and impactful business and technology initiatives that underpin the organisations future business and IT strategy. In this position you will be working across various departments (underwriting operations claims IT Finance) of a dynamic company where you will partner with a wide range of senior stakeholders to support the transformation initiatives that will drive the strategy of the organisation. This is an exciting and impactful role for someone who is looking for an opportunity to drive meaningful change.

The successful candidate will demonstrate significant prior experience in delivering large complex transformation initiatives within an insurance environment. A strong working knowledge of how the London Insurance Market operates is essential as is experience in operating in both agile and waterfall environments.

Whilst the position will not have direct line management responsibility it will require managing and coordinating multiple project teams across different disciplines.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work with senior leaders to define vision objectives scope and outcomes for the strategic programme of work and ensure alignment with broader organisational strategies and goals.
  • Manage and drive a collection of projects that contribute to the larger organisational goals. Foster strong communication and collaboration across project teams.
  • Effectively manage relationships with senior stakeholders and colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • Understand and clearly communicate the overall vision and strategic objectives of the programme. Develop and deploy an effective programme-level communications plan to ensure awareness understanding and alignment of scope objectives and status.
  • Develop and implement a robust change management strategy and plan to effectively manage and coordinate the change across the programme.
  • Develop and maintain programme-level roadmap aligning individual projects and resources.
  • Ensure plans are developed for each project that roll up to the programme and interdependencies are clearly mapped out understood and effectively managed. Integrate the full plan at the programme level gain agreement across all delivery teams and functions.
  • Identify and clearly communicate the resources needed to successfully deliver the programme including any areas of resource constraint to ensure the capacity to manage the change. Appropriately allocate resources across the projects and proactively address any areas of resource conflict.
  • Work with senior management to drive decisions on priorities to deliver the most value to the organisation.
  • Manage interdependencies between projects and resolve conflicts or roadblocks.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues that may impact project success and ensure escalation as needed.
  • Ensure requirements of the business are clearly understood and defined and that work products are aligned with these requirements.
  • Track programme benefits/value and costs. Ensure the programme stays within budget and remains on track to achieve the planned benefits.
  • Track overall programme performance and report to senior leadership. Ensure proper governance awareness and alignment of the programme across the organisation.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to project teams. Act as a source of knowledge and inspiration across the programme.
  • Actively contribute to improving project management processes and methodologies to enhance delivery.

Skills / Competencies

  • Advanced Project Leadership. Extensive experience successfully managing large complex programmes/projects and delivering tangible business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with senior leaders at a big picture/strategic level
  • Strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills
  • Deep understanding of change management and how to effectively drive change throughout an organisation
  • Adept at driving consensus amongst senior stakeholders. Ability to synthesize and communicate complex concepts / challenges in a simple fact driven manner to drive decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Adaptability - Flexibility to adjust to changing situations and technologies.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative working environment across teams and effectively manage relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Enthusiasm and commitment. A can-do attitude and ability to motivate the project teams and maintain a positive environment.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g. MS Project Clarity Jira etc.)

Qualifications

  • Project Management accreditation e.g. Prince 2 CAPM etc.
  • PROSCI or similar Change Management certification highly desirable

Experience

  • 10 years of experience delivering large complex projects/ programmes including at least 5 years within the insurance industry.
  • Strong experience and working knowledge of how the London Insurance Market operates.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in both agile and waterfall project environments.
