The Quality Control Department (QCD) is responsible for supporting the refinery through the testing of process and finished product samples. Its priority is to ensure finished products meet all ASTM CARB EPA and Chevron Product Quality requirements. This position will perform all necessary testing to meet these requirements. This includes chemical and physical analysis by titration distillation gas and liquid chromatography X-ray Octane and other testing techniques. QCD is a 24/7 operation and Lab Operators are required to work shift work 12-hour shifts typically working 14 out of 28 days per month.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Performs a wide variety of tests on refinery process samples and finished products per established procedures
Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity color and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing automatic distillation and titration gas chromatography etc.
Is required to learn and perform approximately 180 different tests following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that comply with ASTM CARB EPA or in-house testing methods.
Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to ensure accuracy and precision of results
Validates data performs calculations and reports test results
Strong problem-solving skills. Identifies risks and takes action to eliminate
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Job necessitates driving on a routine basis
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Bachelors Degree in Natural Science (Chemistry Biology Physics) or Technology (Engineering Computer Science Manufacturing) or 3 years of full analytical laboratory testing experience
Valid Drivers License
Able to work rotating shifts including weekends holidays and overtime.
Good computer skills and problem-solving ability.
This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven track record in Safety and Reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Natural Science (Chemistry Biology Physics) or Technology (Engineering Computer Science Manufacturing)
10 years Laboratory testing experience
Refinery/Chemical Plant Process Operations.
Knowledge of refinery test methods (e.g. ASTM methods for: GC AA IC XRF elemental analysis and wet chemistry)
Understands Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Demonstrated ability to consult on analytical instrumentation and test methods including method development and equipment/instrumentation purchase and repair
Knowledge and understanding of refinery processes
Experience with chemometric modeling and analysis
Relocation Options:

The anticipated hourly wage range for this position is $41.65.
