Job Description

Job Title: AELP Rater 1
Location: On-site at Testing Centres (Dhana M.P or Gurugram Haryana)
Job Type: Contractual
Reports To: Head of Training ELP Organization Chimes Aviation Academy

Job Summary:

Chimes Aviation Academy India s leading FTO is looking for a qualified AELP Rater 1 to assess and rate the English language proficiency of cadet pilots in accordance with ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale and DGCA guidelines. The Rater 1 is a linguistics and language assessment expert responsible for evaluating speech samples and assigning ICAO language proficiency ratings in the areas of pronunciation structure vocabulary fluency comprehension and interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate recorded speech samples of AELP candidates based on the ICAO six-skill holistic rating scale.
  • Work in coordination with Rater 2 (operational expert) and the interlocutor to ensure accurate and fair ratings.
  • Ensure objective unbiased and confidential evaluation of all candidates.
  • Stay current with ICAO Doc 9835 guidance and any DGCA updates relevant to language testing.
  • Participate in review boards appeals and re-rating as required.



Requirements

Essential:

  • At least 10 years of Radio Telephony Experience as a Flight Crew Member/ Air Traffic Controller/ Aeronautical Station Operator in Civil Aviation
  • The Flight Crew/controllers license must be endorsed with AELP Expert Level 6
  • Formal training and certification as AELP Rater 1 by an approved training provider.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain strict neutrality and confidentiality.
  • Participation in recurrent training (initial training will be conducted by Chimes)
  • Willingness to work flexibly based on testing schedules

Formal training and certification as AELP Rater 1 by a DGCA-approved training provider. Deep understanding of ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements (LPRs). Experience in English language teaching or assessment (minimum 3 years preferred). High proficiency in spoken and written English (ICAO Level 6 or equivalent). Strong analytical and documentation skills. Preferred: Experience as an IELTS, TOEFL, or other language proficiency rater. Background in aviation English or exposure to aviation operational environments. Familiarity with DGCA AELP CAR documentation and AELP systems in India. Additional Requirements: Ability to maintain strict neutrality and confidentiality. Participation in initial and recurrent training, standardization, and rater benchmarking activities. Willingness to work flexibly based on testing schedules. Basic computer literacy and ability to work with audio/video rating platforms.
