Position Summary
The Correlative Studies Program provides clinical research laboratory services to facilitate advanced and comprehensive translational cancer research with an overall goal to aid in discovery of new cancer diagnostic and treatment standards. The Research Technician will provide assistance with handling processing shipping and biospecimen management for clinical trials at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Duties

  • Processing multiple types of biospecimens (i.e. blood tissue PBMC stool buccal swab etc.) as per clinical trial protocol laboratory manuals
  • Entering biospecimen data into laboratory information management system (LIMS)
  • Preparing samples for shipment including accompanying documents such as requisitions shipping manifests and inventories
  • Frequent communication with other research and non-research clinical staff for accurate tracking of patient status and collection of all specimen time points
  • Responding to biospecimen queries in a timely fashion
  • Monitoring and re-supply of laboratory consumables including various reagents and chemicals
  • Monitoring laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges freezers pipettes etc.) for maintenance calibration and temperature as needed
  • Reviewing study protocols and laboratory manuals to assist with preparing reference materials
  • Attend and participate in department meetings

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelors degree in health or a science related discipline is required
  • Completion of a recognized biotechnology program preferred
  • At least 6 months of experience handling and processing human biospecimens including shipping and receiving of biospecimens
  • Demonstrated relevant clinical research knowledge including good documentation practices and regulatory guidelines oncology preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
