Job Description


Job Summary

Works collaboratively with the CDI Manager and coordinates daily activities of the Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS). Conducts frequent reviews of CDS work performance to ensure quality and productivity and provides education and assistance to staff. Partners with the CDI Manager and educates health care providers on documentation improvement and goals of the program. Works collaboratively with the Physician Advisor and Clinical Documentation Specialists to assist the medical staff in documentation improvement. Assists HIM professionals and care providers to enhance the integrity of coded data. Actively participates in the Hospitals Revenue Cycle performance improvement initiatives.


Essential Functions

  • Assesses daily activities of CDS and realigns tasks as needed to meet daily objectives of program.
  • Coordinates and provides ongoing education to care providers regarding documentation requirements for optimal data integrity data reliability and clinical coding. Works with CDI Manager and CDI Physician Advisor to improve physician engagement.
  • Performs frequent CDS reviews in collaboration with the CDI Manager to assess quality and productivity of work performed. Provides additional education and guidance to staff when minimum levels are not met.
  • Guides supports and sponsors the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program efforts. In partnership with Clinical Coders ensures patient classification and DRG assignment are supported by physician documentation and in compliance with rules regulations and guidelines.
  • Communicates and informs Manager of status of program and identifies any obstacles in meeting goals and objectives. Collaborates with Manager to develop strategies and provides suggestions to ensure program success.
  • Acts as a liaison between the technical and clinical coding functions.
  • Educates health team colleagues about coding and data management including role responsibilities tools methodologies and anticipated outcomes.
  • Partners with HIM and Revenue Cycle professionals in third party payer DRG audits and appeals.

Qualifications
  • Required Associates Degree Will consider candidates with an associates degree with equivalent experience.
  • Preferred Bachelors Degree Bachelors degree preferred
  • Preferred CCDS or CDIP
  • 5 years of relevant experience Minimum 5 years nursing experience required or minimum 5 years coding experience required with minimum of 2 years CDI experience. Required
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - UNKNOWN Unknown Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AAPC American Academy of Professional Coders preferred Or
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association preferred Or
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association preferred
