JOB SUMMARY

Ottawa Public Library (OPL) provides accessible innovative library and information services throughout the city of Ottawa that meet the unique needs of diverse communities delivered through facility mobile and virtual channels.

As the Program Development Librarian focusing on in-residence programs you will coordinate the selection process the planning and the logistical organization of authors innovators artists and other creators-in-residence. You will implement programs such as talks workshops one-on-one consultations with the public and other related initiatives. Also you oversee financial resources related to assigned activities within an approved budget envelope.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Masters degree in library and/or information sciences from an accredited library school.

6 months of related experience working with community partners and supporting the planning coordination and implementation of public programming.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Comprehensive understanding of OPLs mission vision values governance structures and familiarity with corporate policies and procedures of both OPL and City of Ottawa.

  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers

  • Responsible efficient and professional in carrying out duties and responsibilities
  • Effective time management skills able to work under tight deadlines
  • Consistency fairness tact empathy and respect in interactions with others
  • May be required to lift programming equipment and other items up to 25lbs

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready - immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral reading writing required. English: oral reading writing required. Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the Ottawa Public Librarys satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18 requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
