Job Description

Position #22435:Para/SS/Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
Posting Dates:
06/30/2025 07/07/2025 (Or Until Filled)
Location:
Special Services

Hours:6.5 Hours per Day 180 Days per Year

This position will begin with 2025-2026 school year. New hires may attend paid training days in August.This position is based on student/program need. Hours may increase or decrease as necessary.


JOB DESCRIPTION


The paraeducator will assist certified staff in providing assessment therapy and consultation services for students ages Birth-21 who have a variety of communication disorders. Services may be provided individually in small groups classroom and natural environment settings. The paraeducator functions as a member of a team in programming for all disabled students. The paraeducator consults and collaborates with SLPs regular and special education teachers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Speech Language Pathology Assistant Certification.
  3. Mustattach unofficial transcriptproving Bachelors degree in Speech Pathologyto application or the SLPA Certificate. Official transcripts of all levels of education including high school required within 30 days of hire.
  4. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  5. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  6. Must pass a basic skills test.
  7. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  8. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  2. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  3. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  4. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  5. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
  6. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  7. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  8. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Bachelors degree or equivalent in speech language/communication.
  2. Academic background which includes speech pathology and/or audiology
  3. Experience working with students in individual and group settings.
  4. Experience facilitating programs for communication disordered students.
  5. Experience keeping data for IEP goals/objectives.
  6. Experience working with IEP teams.
  7. Experience carrying out prescribed instructional and behavioral management program.
  8. Understanding of Federal and state laws pertaining to disabled students.
  9. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  10. Excellent attendance punctuality dependability self-disciplined and a self-starter.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES

  1. Provide direct therapy to students with supervision from a Speech and Language Pathologist.
  2. Provide services to students in a variety of settings and formats.
  3. Correctly follow specific directions from the SLP for intervention and data collection.
  4. May be required to complete additional paperwork such as Medicaid billing documentation.
  5. May be required to create therapy materials as requested.
  6. Complete required paperwork with accuracy and efficiency to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.
  7. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
  8. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
