Job Summary
The Grounds Maintenance Worker II performs the full range of general and varied grounds maintenance and gardening duties at District sites. The Grounds Worker II may oversee the activities of a grounds crew in the absence of a Lead Grounds Maintenance Worker.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Job-related education necessary to perform the essential job duties is typically consistent with graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Journey-level experience in grounds maintenance preferably in a school industrial or commercial setting where knowledge of methods materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance has been acquired.
- Experience operating equipment and tools in grounds maintenance.
- Experience performing sports field lining preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver License; California DMV Drivers Record report.
The report is required when an applicant applies for a Grounds Maintenance Worker II job and must be dated within 30 days of the job record can be obtained at the DMV or ordered through the DMV online system or An applicants driving history must comply with district driving standards as specified in the DMV Employee Pull Notice program below.
Employees hired in this classification will be enrolled in the DMV Employee Pull Notice program. The district will receive a driver record report at least once every twelve (12) months or when any subsequent conviction failure to appear accident drivers license suspension revocation or any other action is taken against the employees driving privilege during employment.

Examination process: Completed applications are reviewed and candidates who meet the minimum qualifications participate in an examination process. Exam components may consist of multiple choice test (weight: 20%) performance test (weight: 30%) and a Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weight: 50%).
The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional - Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. The list is used to fill current and future vacancies for six months.
If a candidate has taken the multiple choice and/or performance test for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years candidate may be able to transfer the scores to this recruitment. Veterans may be eligible for preference points on entrance examinations (entrance is defined as candidates who are not current employees of the District). Acopy of your DD214 must be submtted at time of application.
Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check fingerprinting physical exam including tuberculosis drug and alcohol screening and an Oath of Allegiance. The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service whichever is longer.
