About the Role

An exciting opportunity currently exists for a Grade 1 Sleep Technologist to join the St Vincents Hospital Sleep Centre (Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine) team on a part time permanent basis. It is essential for the Grade 1 Sleep Technologist to work predominantly overnight shifts with the possibility of evening Grade 1 Sleep Technologist will be responsible for providing high quality clinical service within the inpatient sleep laboratory for patients with sleep disorders.

Duties

  • Responsible for the setup of equipment and patients for the recording of physiological variables during sleep

  • Responsible for the recording of physiological variables during patients sleep including the implementation and titration of therapies

  • Liaise and communicate with other team members and senior scientist

  • Participate in monthly Sleep Centre staff meetings and in-service training

  • Ensure local and organisational policies are adhered to at all times.

Classifications for this position will range from Scientist Grade 1 RX1 RX7 ($61204 - $88223 per annum pro rata for part time).

Your Contribution

  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science is essential

  • Previous experience in a customer/ patient focused environment is desirable

St Vincents Hospital Sleep Centre

St Vincents Hospital Sleep Centre (Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine) is a multidisciplinary Sleep Service providing inpatient and outpatient services to patients from metropolitan and regional Victoria. Services includes full polysomnography home based testing CPAP clinic outpatient clinic patient liaison and sleep psychologist clinic. Inpatient testing services are made up of a core three bed facility which provides full polysomnography for the investigation of sleep and sleep related respiratory disorders.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Grade 1 Sleep Technologist will be responsible for providing high quality clinical service within the
inpatient sleep laboratory for patients with sleep disorders.


5. POSITION DUTIES
Demonstrates sound knowledge in conducting polysomnography for the investigation and
management of sleep disorders including patient and equipment setup.
Responsible for the recording of physiological variables in sleep and ensuring the quality of such
recordings
Demonstrates sound knowledge in the analysis of polysomnography during a patients sleep.
Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge in the area of sleep disorders and acts as a clinical role
model by providing the highest standard of direct patient care.
Accurately documents patient care in accordance with hospital guidelines.
Adheres to all aspects of confidentiality in regards to patients staff and personnel.
Practices within policy and procedural guidelines

Complete annual clinical competencies

Participate in clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement activities as part of dayto-day work

Attend general hospital orientation within 3 months of commencement

8. SELECTION CRITERIA
8.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent qualification.
8.2 OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience in performing a range of diagnostic procedures
Maintenance of equipment and instruments
Experience educating undergraduate students
Ability to be self-directing and work with minimum supervision
High level decision making ability in particular problem identification and solution and analysis and
interpretation of clinical data
