    Location: Uinta County School District #1 Evanston Wyoming

    Salary: $53400 - $80400 (Placement commensurate with experience and training)

    Primary Job Function

    The Behavior Intervention Specialist plays a key student support role within Uinta County School District #1 providing direct support to students with IEPs in both general and special education settings across the district. The position focuses on supporting the implementation of individualized behavior supports including collaboration with special education teachers and general educators to foster environments conducive to positive behavior and academic growth.
    The Behavior Intervention Specialist works under the direction of the Director of Special Education and is instrumental in supporting the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). This role may include formal assessment administration as well as supports behavior data collection and interpretation as part of the IEP team process.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Masters degree in Special Education is preferred; however a Bachelors degree in Special Education will be accepted. Related fields may be considered at the discretion of the school district.
    • Valid Wyoming teaching license; Special Education certification required or actively in progress
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students with disabilities and challenging behavior
    • Valid Wyoming drivers license
    • Coursework or background in behavior analysis preferred

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The following list is illustrative only and not exhaustive of all duties that may be assigned.

    Student & Staff Support

    • Provide direct support to students with IEPs in both general and special education settings to promote behavior growth and academic success.
    • Collaborate with classroom and special education teachers to implement positive behavior strategies and maintain inclusive environments.
    • Participate as a support team member in the development and review of FBAs and BIPs based on observation data analysis and team collaboration.
    • Deliver training and modeling to instructional staff to support implementation of behavior plans and promote effective instructional environments.
    • Support educators and paraprofessionals with behavioral coaching de-escalation strategies and social-emotional learning techniques.
    • Provide consultation and feedback for educators working with students with IEPs exhibiting challenging behavior.

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Build supportive relationships with teachers administrators and families to assist in behavioral planning and positive student outcomes.
    • Provide coaching modeling and collaborative planning with teams to help implement classroom-wide and individual behavior supports.
    • Participate in IEP meetings and problem-solving teams as a behavior support specialist.

    Coaching & Capacity Building

    • Coach staff using Behavioral de-escalation methods (instruction modeling role-play feedback) to implement behavioral supports.
    • Provide coaching in:
    • Trauma-Informed Practices
    • De-escalation strategies
    • Behavior data collection and documentation
    • Functions of behavior and intervention strategies

    Behavioral Data Support

    • Support the creation and use of individualized data collection systems for students with behavioral needs.
    • Assist teams in collecting organizing and analyzing behavior data to inform ongoing intervention strategies.
    • Observe students and support the creation of function-based behavior support plans.
    Note: The specialist may be responsible for formal assessment administration (e.g. OWLS-II Vineland VB-MAPP) as well as providing supporting input and behavioral observations during the FBA and BIP process.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • Expertise in special education practices and behavior management strategies
    • Familiarity with IDEA IEP implementation and inclusive education practices
    • Skill in implementing de-escalation and crisis prevention strategies
    • Understanding of developmental disabilities emotional and behavioral disorders and autism spectrum disorder
    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholders
    • Ability to coach staff model interventions and maintain collaborative relationships
    • Competence in developing individualized behavioral supports for students with complex needs
    • Skill in using data for problem-solving and intervention planning

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    • Regular movement between schools and classrooms; ability to lift 25 lbs
    • May involve working directly with students displaying physically aggressive or self-injurious behavior
    • Possible exposure to bodily fluids
    • Must be able to travel between sites

    Driving Requirement

    • Travel required to provide district-wide support
