Job Description

Position Title: Therapist CSAS (Cairns Sexual Assault Service)

Location: Cairns

This role provides trauma-informed counselling support and advocacy to people aged 12 and above who have who have experienced sexual harm and children and young people aged 12 to 17 years both inside and external to the statutory child protection system who have experienced sexual violence and/ or exhibiting sexually reactive behaviours (SRB). The role also involves supporting non-offending family members kin caregivers and/or carers and support networks including Child Safety Youth Justice schools and health professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individualised developmentally appropriate trauma-informed therapy to children and young people referred to the CSAS program.

Offer counselling and psychoeducation to caregivers to support family safety and engagement in the therapeutic process.

Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop case plans in collaboration with the client family and other professionals.

Participate in regular clinical supervision and team case discussions.

Maintain accurate and timely case notes reports and risk assessments.

Liaise and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure coordinated and responsive care.

Contribute to community education and prevention initiatives where relevant.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Tertiary qualifications in Psychology Social Work Counselling or a related field.

Eligibility for professional registration with AHPRA (Psychologist) or membership with a professional body such as AASW or PACFA.

Minimum 2 years experience in therapeutic work with children young people and/or families ideally in a trauma or sexual assault setting.

Understanding of harmful sexual behaviours and ability to work safely and respectfully with young people who have engaged in HSB.

Strong knowledge of child development trauma impacts and family systems.

High-level communication clinical documentation and teamwork skills.

Desirable:

Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge of relevant legislative and statutory frameworks (e.g. child protection youth justice).

Training in specific therapeutic models such as TF-CBT EMDR or play-based approaches.
