Established as a community non-profit in 1972 The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian gay bisexual queer transgender nonbinary immigrant and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed valued and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community we actively recommit to being a more vibrant bold innovative safe and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life focusing on our deeply held values of equity social justice and client-centered trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 100 staff working at 11 facilities across San Diego County.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Youth and Family Services the Youth Services Manager is responsible for the development implementation coordination and oversight of a wide range of programming activities and support services for LGBTQ youth and their families. In collaboration with the Director of Youth Services this position will manage staff programming and day-to-day operations at both the Hillcrest Youth Center (HYC) and the South Bay Youth Center (SBYC) ensuring that both centers provide safe affirming and resource-rich environments for youth. This role plays a critical part in supporting youth experiencing crisis using trauma-informed principles to ensure compassionate culturally responsive and effective interventions that prioritize safety dignity and healing.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise youth services staff volunteers and additional personnel assigned to youth programming.
  • Respond to crisis situations using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques prioritize safety and complete all required documentation promptly.
  • Oversee daily operations at the youth centers (HYC and SBYC) ensuring a safe inclusive and engaging environment.
  • Lead the recruitment selection onboarding and professional development of youth services team members.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans quality assurance protocols budgets and timelines for new and existing youth and family programs.
  • Monitor progress on contract goals service benchmarks and program objectives on a monthly basis to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders including K12 schools colleges and universities healthcare providers social service agencies community organizations families and youth.
  • Conduct outreach to establish new collaborations that expand the centers reach and impact. Outreach takes place in a range of indoor and outdoor settings with various weather conditions.
  • Facilitate workshops/training for youth and professionals on topics relevant to supporting youth.
  • Represent the organization at community events coalitions and meetings as assigned by leadership.
  • Assists with receiving and transporting supplies or food deliveries which may include lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds to and from vehicles or storage areas.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor & senior leadership.

Leadership:

  • Supervise/mentor the assigned team members/staff.
  • Provide guidance/direction in the development and execution of any workplans and projects.
  • Provide guidance/direction for career planning performance challenges and evaluations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional Skills:
    • 2-4 years of management experience including staff supervision.
    • 1-2 years of crisis management experience including conducting risk assessments and safety planning.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed based on program or organizational needs.
    • Prior experience working in the LGBTQ youth communities required preferably in a non-profit setting.
    • Knowledgeable about current issues/trends related to the LGBTQ community and others who are historically marginalized.
    • Strong skills such as critical thinking verbal communication active listening empathy de-escalation problem-solving and conflict resolution. Strong organization and management skills.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office particularly Word Outlook and Excel. Experience with using electronic health records is preferred.
  • Language Skills: English.

preferred QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Experience:
    • A Bachelors degree is preferred.
    • A minimum of two years of experience working with LGBT youth youth living with HIV and un-housed youth.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual in English/Spanish.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Compensation: The pay range for this position is $26.50-$28.50 and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Non-exempt.
