Health Room Team Member

Description:

University School of Nashville seeks a dedicated compassionate individual to join our team as a full-time 12-month Health Room Team Member. This position reports to the School Health Director and plays a vital role in promoting and supporting the health and well-being of our student community.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing medical care and services to students according to physician-prescribed medical care and treatment orders
  • Providing emergency treatment and routine first aid in case of illness or injurywith parental consent
  • Following confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations in all matters
  • Maintaining student immunization and other medical records
  • Conferring with students parents and teachers regarding student health
  • Managing theschools health system database updating clinic treatment notes daily and ensuring parents review/update student health information annually
  • Coordinating with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary
  • Responding to emergency medical situations; performs first aid as needed; coordinating with local emergency personnel and agencies as required
  • Monitoring assisting and administering insulin to diabetics or maintaining as required and providing other treatment as necessary
  • Administering the schools Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Policy and Plan; providingother training as needed
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies and materials needed in the clinic; developing and monitoring procedures for maintaining adequate supplies in all school first aid kits
  • Disseminating appropriate communication to school community concerning health and welfare issues (i.e. lice)
  • Following all required cleaning and sanitization procedures
  • Performing other duties as determined by the Health Room Director

The School

University School of Nashville is an independent non-sectarian co-educational day school with enrollment of 1080 students kindergarten through twelfth grade. In 1915 the George Peabody College for Teachers opened Peabody Demonstration School (PDS) USNs predecessor which earned acclaim for its curriculum and faculty. In 1974 Peabody College announced plans to close PDS and a group of parents alumni students and teachers reconstituted and re-chartered the school as University School of Nashville.

USNs midtown location adjacent to Vanderbilt University and its Peabody College for Teachers reminds us each day of our beginnings 110 years ago in the demonstration school culture of innovation and educational best practices. Its a vibrant educational community for both students and teachers in the midst of a dynamic city.

Full-time classroom teachers are expected to work from 7:30 p.m to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday carrying out the duties and responsibilities outlined below. Teachers must have regular and predictable attendance at school; be on time each day; be focused and responsible for independent supervision of a class of 15 or more students; be able to communicate positively and productively with students parents and colleagues; and handle routine administrative duties taking attendance filling out reports ordering new materials and cooperating with requests made by the administration.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse
  • State licensing requirement must be current and maintained
  • Certification in CPR/AED/First-Aid must be current and maintained
  • Experience with recording health information in an electronic database preferred
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Dependable and organized with integrity enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Proficient in word processing spreadsheets and internet applications
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all medical information for students and employees
  • Be eager to learn adaptwell to change andcommitted to ones own professional growth
  • Work productively and demonstrate initiative when unsupervised
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other members of the USN community
  • Be available for Summer Camp and various campus wide functions such as field days
