The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Home is to primarily serve the Veterans population of Louisiana through the provision of medical restorative and rehabilitative service in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home (SWLVH) is an agency under the management of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. SWLVH is a twenty-four (24) hour 156-bed long-term health care facility. Our 91 000 square foot architecturally enhanced facility accommodates 156 veterans.

Job Duties:
The Nursing Unit Aide/Recreation is non-professional nursing work involving responsibility for providing recreational services and personal care and recovery of chronically ill geriatric psychiatric and/or chemically dependent residents. Direct supervision is received from the Therapeutic Reacreation Specialist 3-A.
50% Transports/escorts residents to and from the unit and facilities for various activities: may assist residents with ambulation.
25% Assists residents with activities of daily living. Interprets age-specific data appropriately. Provides age-appropriate care.
25% Assists in storing supplies and cleaning the area.
