Purpose of the Role

The Head of Risk will assist the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (CRCO) to embed and continuously develop and enhance the risk management framework across AEGIS London ensuring alignment with Lloyds and regulatory expectations including providing clear commercial and forward-looking risk oversight to support AEGIS Londons strategic objectives.


Duties and Accountabilities

  • Risk Framework:
    • Oversee the maintenance and development of the risk register including controls policies processes indicators. As part of this the Head of Risk will be responsible for leading the process to identify assess monitor and report on key aspects of the risk management framework to relevant stakeholders including the Board Risk Committee Executive Committee and relevant management committees.
    • Manage and oversee the effective execution of the Risk and Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA) process including establishing an appropriate control testing process. This will include designing and operating a regular cycle of risk deep dives into key risk areas to actively promote and develop the understanding of risk management across the business.
    • Oversee the effective execution of the risk event reporting process.
    • Oversee the emerging risks issues and opportunities process effectively tying outcomes from this exercise with other aspects of the risk management framework.
    • Continuously improve scenario analysis with AEGIS London ensuring outcomes and/or recommended management actions from the analysis are clear. This will include leading on the design and execution of scenarios including scenarios that contribute to syndicate capital assessments.
    • Coordinate the review of the syndicates risk appetite statements and corresponding tolerances.
    • Continuously improve risk reporting to ensure that reports are clear insightful and contain clear actionable points for relevant stakeholders.
  • Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA):
    • Accountable for producing the syndicates ORSA report including ensuring all inputs into the report from various ORSA processes have undergone appropriate governance. This includes timely delivery of the ORSA report to the CRCO and the Executive team for review.
    • Participating as the Risk team lead within the business as part of processes which are required for the ORSA namely business planning and capital assessment.
  • Internal Model Validation:
    • Oversee governance of the internal model ensuring that the internal model validation process is designed planned and executed in line with Lloyds standards and that model changes are managed and validated appropriately.
    • Coordinate and lead the annual validation process and deliver the Internal Model Validation report in a timely manner for review by the CRCO and the Executive team for review and comment.
  • Governance:
    • Actively engage and participate in various committees and groups and when required to the Board in relation to the AEGIS Londons risk management framework and risk issues.
    • Attend the Risk Committee to present the ORSA Report Validation Report and quarterly risk reporting.
  • Climate risk and Sustainability:
    • Oversee and develop AEGIS Londons climate risk framework and wider Sustainability strategy.
    • Attend relevant forums within the market on the topic to ensure AEGIS London is in line with on-going developments in this area.
  • Strategic Projects:
    • Provide risk input challenge and oversight for key business initiatives as and when they arise.
  • Risk Training:
    • Establish and deliver risk training as needed by the business.
  • Regulatory Engagement:
    • Maintain the Companys excellent relationship with the Lloyds and the PRA by being the main contact with AEGIS Londons account managers.
    • Coordinating any meetings and uploading materials required for submission to Lloyds including specific regulatory returns to the relevant Lloyds platform.
  • Team leadership:
    • Develop the capabilities of the Risk team in challenging and improving the performance of the business ensuring members of the team are engaged and excited about the work they do.
    • Ensure the team is resourced appropriately escalating any concerns to the CRCO as relevant.


Skills Knowledge and Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience of leading and developing a high-performing team with well developed leadership and people management skills.
  • Be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels within the organisation; confidently work with board committees and senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Possess highly effective analytical and decision making skills; with the ability to work with and analyse complex data with the purpose of providing meaningful insight.
  • Demonstrate strong well-structured written and verbal communication and excellent attention to detail; excellent report writing ability.
  • Be able to delegate and prioritise work effectively and work to tight deadlines.
  • Be proficient in MS Office packages and comfortable working with various systems and data sources.
  • Hold a relevant professional qualification (desirable but not essential).
