What is the opportunity
You will be overseeing WM Canadas GAM Canadas GAM US Investor Services Canadas and WM Strategy Products and Digital Investments (Canada only) first line of defence (1LOD) compliance with RBCs Privacy Risk Management policies and Senior Manager WM Privacy Risk you will make a positive impact by leading and managing Privacy Risk for WM businesses in Canada.
This position is full time and will require you to work a minimum of 4 days in the office per week as per RBC policy with the option to work one day from home.
What will you do
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Global Privacy Program for WMs Canadian businesses (namely WM CA GAM CA GAM US Investor Services Canada and Strategy Products and Digital Investments Canada) helping ensure compliance with applicable privacy policies.
- Responsible for the handling of Access Requests in compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations including review and/or redaction of responsible material in collaboration with key internal partners.
- Be responsible for privacy and compliance regulatory requirements in WMs Canadian businesses leveraging knowledge to monitor review report fulfil and service Privacy Incidents Privacy-related requests and other Privacy Risk Management activities applicable to these businesses Includes advising on privacy design requirements collaborating on privacy risk assessments performed by the DMO (if required) identifying and mitigating privacy risk exposures and other privacy queries.
- Ensure appropriate handling of privacy complaints responding to privacy queries and complaints in a timely and accurate manner.
- Identify document and track privacy risks and recommend actions (i.e. control activities) reporting of the risk position as required through formal organizational risk management processes and investigations.
- Lead and manage Canadian BU access to RBCs Privacy systems.
- Initiate and own risk mitigation methodologies required to prudently manage risk exposures applicable to WM. Develop service partnerships with stakeholders Group Risk Management and Compliance in identifying risk-related issues and raising awareness and understanding of risks associated with WMs Canadian businesses as highlighted above.
- Support and advise on the management of WMs Canadian businesses related and breaches in line with privacy legislation and specific policies and procedures.
- Develop and facilitate role-based privacy training to improve employee awareness as it relates to control weaknesses or escalated privacy incidents. .
- Drive culture of by advocating for privacy by design and integration of the RBC privacy principles accountability and sharing of best practice.
What do you need to succeed
Must-have
- Strong privacy background including minimum of 5 years privacy experience preferably at RBC or at another financial institution.
- Technical knowledge of Privacy regulations and practices in Canada and experience applying these in practice.
- Strong analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
- Strong administrative documentation planning and organizational skills. Proven ability to manage competing demands.
- Self-sufficient with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Experience with process mapping documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Progressional designation/privacy qualification (such as CIPP/E or Practitioner Certification) is highly desirable.
- Proficient in technical systems and MS applications such as Excel Word Access Outlook etc.
Nice-to-have
- Technical knowledge of Privacy regulations and practices in US and experience of applying these in practice.
- Relevant privacy experience in Financial Services specifically with RBC or another large bank delivering cross-company and/or jurisdiction privacy programs/initiatives.
