Title: TransportationFleet Services Assistant
Schedule:8 hours per day / 261 days per year
Reports to:Fleet Coordinator/Mechanic/Director of Support Services
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: TheFleet ServicesAssistant assists in maintaining district cars and buses in top condition in order to prevent problems and interruptions of district educational programs. This position will also be a substitute bus driver when needed. To perform these duties the Fleet Services Assistant must work closely with the Fleet Coordinator Mechanic Director of Support Services and administration of the district.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to maintain district cars and buses in top condition in order to preventproblems and interruptions of district educational programs.
- Ability to provide clean safe and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from district programs and activities.
- Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of thedistrict and community.
- Ability to safely operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.
- Ability to implement the vision and mission of the district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objectsor materials.
- Ability to manually lift a maximum of 75 pounds.
- Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning climbing balancing andreaching.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must occasionally work in noisy environments with numerous interruptions.
- Must work in and around dust fumes and odors.
- Requires prolonged sitting when bus driving.
General Responsibilities:
- Ability to wash and service district school buses and vehicles including oil changesand grease jobs.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs (lights etc).
- Ability to repair minor equipment as directed.
- Ability to keep the entire fleet service area clean and neat in appearance includingoffice and restroom.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative courteous and timelymanner.
- Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by theFleet Coordinator Mechanic or Director of Support Services.
- Ability to drive a school bus on an assigned route when needed.
- Ability to implement and follow all transportation regulations including current First Aid CPR and Defensive Driving Certification.
- Ability to implement all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Kansas CDL with required endorsements. (USD 450 will work with you to obtain your CDL.)
- Meet all state requirements for bus drivers including Defensive Driving CPR andFirst Aid certification. (USD 450 will provide the needed training each year.)
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positivemanner meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including allprecautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drugtest as required.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
