SUMMARY:
Math Coaches provide professional development and support to math teachers and staff focusing on enhancing best practices in math content planning instruction assessment co-teach in the math classroom. They serve as subject matter experts designing and delivering professional development offering individualized teacher support mentoring coaching to improve effective teaching and maximize student success. and overseeing projects related to professional development. Math Coaches also play a pivotal role in facilitating district and school initiatives aimed at promoting excellence in math teaching and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Deliver professional development sessions to math teachers to enhance their skills in planning instruction and assessment emphasizing data-driven decision-making.
- Model effective math lessons as a form of professional development for staff.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure math lessons align with standards and make use of district-approved resources.
- Conduct classroom observations and engage in coaching conversations with math teachers to improve instructional practices.
- Model effective instructional practices and co-teach as necessary.
- Using instructional strategies gathering small groups of students as needed to reiterate concepts.
- Facilitate the development of math curriculum assessments and training resources to address and support students math learning needs.
- Provide support to math teachers in developing classroom management procedures and strategies specific to the K-12 grade levels.
- Participate in planning and delivering New Teacher Orientation and peer mentoring assisting new math teachers with their daily teaching lesson planning instruction assessment and reflection.
- Support school site Integrated Action Plans and district mandates that impact math curriculum instruction and assessment for grades K-12.
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues students and community members.
- Assist in designing intervention strategies to ensure student achievement in mathematics.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in mathematics education or related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in teaching or training with a focus on mathematics preferred.
- Experience in designing and leading professional development sessions especially in math is preferred.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Thorough understanding of mathematics standards for grades K-12
- Proficiency in effective instructional practices in mathematics.
- Expertise in working effectively with adult learners.
- Ability to differentiate instructional needs for various levels of math students.
- Familiarity with instructional technology practices.
- Knowledge of best intervention practices in mathematics.
SKILL IN:
- Effective oral and written communication especially related to mathematics instruction.
- Collaborative leadership bridging district and site initiatives in math education.
- Applying reasoning to research and solve moderately complex issues in math education.
- Gathering and analyzing math-related data applying logical reasoning.
- Authoring and preparing math-specific reports documents and presentations.
- Researching industry trends solutions and best practices in math education.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive math-related information.
- Utilizing computer applications and software relevant to math education.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class require: stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
