Job Description
Amazons global fulfillment network enables any merchant in any of the geography ship items that you order on Amazon to any place on earth. There are a variety of ways in which we can acquire items from vendors to our warehouses ship items from one location to another and several intermediate locations through which the package travels before reaching the customer. There are millions of such packages each with different attributes and different delivery requirements. What results is a highly dense graph of source intermediate and destination nodes with arcs between them representing possible paths for packages with different costs and times along each arc. Accounting for all these constraints and maximizing the number of shipments shipped while minimizing cost providing a variety of delivery options and maximizing delivery performance is Transportation Engineerings primary focus.
We have built a world class Software engineering team which is focused on solving some of the complex problems in worldwide Transportation using workflows optimization algorithms machine learning systems etc. These are large scale distributed systems handling millions of packages being shipped through our network
What will you do
As a leader you will implement the charter and vision for your team. You will prioritize your teams projects and deliver the goals while measuring appropriate metrics to monitor team performance. As a manager you will identify and drive process improvements while working with multiple teams with-in and outside your organization. You will interface with business operations and tech teams within and outside transportation organization. You will influence the technical vision and automation roadmap for your team. You will own hiring performance management goal setting and mentoring for your team.
To accomplish this you are expected to be proficient in system design programming scripting and querying skills as well a strong grasp over object oriented analysis and design. You are considered knowledgeable in the key areas by your team and are able to provide assistance and leadership to your team. You are expected to analyze scope work requests create estimates and effectively work with stakeholders on prioritization decisions as well as progress updates. You will own the planning of your teams work and constantly improve your teams practices.
A successful candidate will be a fast learner with an established background in leading teams strong technical ability great communication skills and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.
1. 5 years of experience building and managing high performance software teams
2. Programming experience in Python Java and deep understanding of object-oriented design.
3. Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field
4. Solid expertise in data structures and algorithms
5. Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
6. Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
7. Experience with working and deploying scalable highly available systems
8. Unix or Linux experience
9. Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
1. Experience working with multiple Technical and non-technical stakeholders and managing deliverables at once.
2. Influence without authority
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
4. Bachelors or Masters degree in a technical discipline
5. Experience in working with distributed systems
6. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
7. Exceptional project planning and sprint management skills
8. Experienced people manager (hiring performance management day-to-day)
