Job Description

Associate Legal Counsel Labour Employment & Corporate Law
Location: Vancouver or Victoria (Hybrid/Remote potential depending on experience)
Salary: $130000$160000 per annum (dependent on experience with labour arbitrations)

Our client a complex provincial organization delivering health-related services is seeking an experienced Associate Legal Counsel to join its Legal & Privacy Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional with 710 years of experience to contribute to meaningful work that impacts communities across British Columbia.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel the Associate Legal Counsel provides legal advice and support across a broad range of matters with a primary focus on labour and employment as well as corporate and privacy law. This role involves providing strategic legal guidance to internal stakeholders managing litigation representing the organization at hearings and tribunals and overseeing external counsel when required.

Specific Portfolios:
Labour and Employment this position has primary responsibility to provide legal advice on matters relating to Human Resources (HR) and performance management of Medical Staff. This includes matters involving physician contracts medical staff privileges workplace issues involving medical and non-medical staff administrative law and regulatory compliance employment and labour law and risk management related to labour and employment. This position also manages litigation and matters before administrative tribunals arising from performance management issues related to both medical and non-medical staff.

Corporate this position has primary responsibility for legal support and guidance on commercial agreements and corporate matters including services and funding agreements collaboration agreements software licences intellectual property arrangements and corporate policies. This position also assists with medical staff contracts as well as privacy and data sharing matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on HR and medical staff performance management including employment law labour law administrative law and workplace investigations.
  • Represent the organization in labour arbitrations administrative hearings and related disputes.
  • Draft and review contracts and policies including medical staff agreements services agreements and software licensing.
  • Conduct legal research and provide opinions on relevant legislation and case law.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and provide training on legal risk and compliance matters.
  • Support privacy and data sharing initiatives in alignment with applicable legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Law degree from an accredited institution and member in good standing (or eligible for membership) with the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • 710 years of relevant legal experience with a strong background in labour employment and administrative law.
  • Experience advising on corporate and healthcare-related legal matters.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic solution-oriented advice.
  • Strong communication negotiation and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous work in a healthcare or public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with medical staff contracts and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Experience advising on information technology agreements and privacy legislation.
