PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK
Positions in this class are responsible for the efficient operation of two-large natural gas-fired electric generation units. Performs mechanical maintenance and/or cleaning. Monitors and ensures proper operation of turbines condensers generators cooling tower water treatment and related equipment. Starts or shuts down electric-generating units. Incumbents work 12-hour rotating shift schedule and may be required to work overtime if needed. May also work in potentially hazard situations including working at heights in confined spaces and in and around high temperatures pressures and noise levels. Stays current on all equipment as well as regulations policies and procedures affecting plant operations.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High school supplemented by completed vocational/technical school in industrial trades or similar military experience and significant working experience in heavy industrial plant operations.
APPRENTICESHIP
Positions in this class may be assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV Section 6. This requires the employee to complete all initial and ongoing training requirements as established by Lafayette Utilities System for continued employment.
TYPE OF EXAMINATION - Examination will be a combination of a written test and a performance test.
