JOB SUMMARY:
Experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer with primary duties in H-Canyon to incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the development review and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities (H-Canyon HB-Line 235-F F/H Lab FCC etc..) at the Savannah River Site. Provide technical assistance in developing writing maintaining and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses technical safety requirements (TSR) limited condition of operations (LCO) and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals. Understand Accident Analysis unreviewed safety question (USQ) Safety Basis Regulatory Authority (SBRA) and Consolidated Hazards Analysis Process (CHAP). Communicate information to DOE representatives facility operating safety committee members and other stakeholders.
Apply technical experience in the field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields and use other technical resources within the company to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise. Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise. Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in the area of expertise in the external world. Be aware of the capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them. Lead task teams to develop solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management. Develop schedules monitor progress monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research development testing quality assurance requirements. Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers colleagues managers and oversight groups. Mentor junior colleagues. Prepare reports for external publication.
WORK HOURS:
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week) 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week) and 9/80s (9 hours/day five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Nuclear and Criticality Safety Engineering Area Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION:
An advanced degree and experience a Ph.D. degree and 10 years experience. A MS degree and 12 years experience. A BS degree and approximately 15 years experience. Nuclear Engineering Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry
EXPERIENCE:
Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in field. Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830 DOE O 413.3 DOE O 420.1 DOE STDsand related directives and standards is required. Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in developing and providing safety basis inputs to facility/project schedules while meeting deadlines and budgets. Candidate must perform work safely and be proficient in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Area Security Access: Clearance required Q Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Fifteen years of relevant experience in developing reviewing and maintaining safety basis documents and safety basis support documents is preferred.
Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear safety engineering experience is preferred or prior design authority engineering and/or nuclear safety engineering experience for a DOE site.
Preferred prior extensive experience writing safety basis documents such as DSA and TSR
