DescriptionEssential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely peels and removes casing from product using sharp tool (knife)
- Scrape mold coverings and substances from product using sharp tool (knife)
- Daily pre-operation set up / changeover of all equipment in the Coating line Multi Vac VC-999 Flo-Wrap hand wrap area Chub Cutter and CVP machine
- Wrap salami at a pace of 4-5 pieces per minute
- Box salami weighs straps and applies weight tags
- Positions roll of labels on machine and inserts into feeder/label machine
- Attaches identification labels to finished product
- Inspects meat packets to ensure specifications and quality for accurate labeling seal integrity and code date clarity
- Removes defective packets
- Monitors line for pile-ups and jams
- Hand counts each final product before placing in box for packaging
- Positions and fills feeder with boxes and replenishes
- Erects or forms boxes of various sizes
- Hand tapes bottom of errected boxes
- Palletize boxed salame up to 35 lbs
- Follow all GMPs SOPs and BRC standards
- Ensures and maintains good housekeeping though-out the area
- Report any employee issues in the department to your line coordinator / supervisor
- Report anything unusual including accidents breakage or malfunction of machineries and equipment to your line coordinator / supervisor.
- Performs required stretches and exercises
- Wear all appropriate PPE. Work safely and use equipment only when trained.
- May be assigned or required to perform other duties responsibilities and functions assigned by the production line coordinator and/or supervisor and/or production management.
Educational and Job Experience Requirements
High school diploma desired
Food industry or manufacturing experience desired
Knowledge of basic math
Basic English reading writing and comprehension skills
Job-related Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to grasp and use sharp tools (knife)
- Literacy in reading
- Ability to count
- Ability to differentiate numbers
- Basic knowledge of boxing equipment
- Ability to work with mold pepper allergens cleaning chemicals and other spices
- Maintains exceptional GMPs and food safety procedures follows company/BRC standards.
- Good interpersonal skills and good communication skills
- Ability to work in a hot/cold environment
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment maintaining a commitment to results.
- Drive continuous improvement in both production process and occupational safety
- Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours a day regardless of the department assignment and overtime when weekends and holidays
- Line Coordinator backup: Ability to communicate in English (basic level)
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
Pallet Jack certified
Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions
The essential functions of the job and working conditions requires the individual to walk stand stoop bend reach grasp push pull (600 lbs.) and lift up to 35 lbs.
The job requires the individual to work in a light to moderate noise environment and/or up to a high level of noise environment that requires mandated personal protective equipment. Working environment may include but is not limited to: the donning wearing and usage of hairnets smocks coats gloves boots glasses hearing protection and hard hats.
The position may be exposed to extreme climate (e.g. hot dry cold and wet) conditions; may potentially be exposed to allergens/mold and pepper
Work Schedule Required having flexibility to work overtime and weekends.
