What Will Do You

The Hot Section Engineering (HSE) Mechanical Design team is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer preferably with turbine experience that will own production and sustainment tasks for the Low-Pressure Turbine (LPT) Case. The Engineer will be the design focal working with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) on the F135 Program including project structures durability aero-thermal and product definition and integrating learning with the analogous the Engine Core Upgrade (ECU) hardware. The team needs a well-organized and decision-driven individual that will interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other departments such as Customer Technical Support Aftermarket repairs and Product Safety to complete myriad tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope seeking a balanced system solution ensuring engineering excellence all with some supervisor oversight.
  • Enable and sustain the efficient use of Outsourcing via technical review and oversight.
  • Establish and maintain trust with internal and external customers by executing tasks with robust technical solutions.
  • Work with our Customer Technical Support (CTS) team to respond to customer questions review deteriorated hardware update engine maintenance manual limits and lead timely resolution of field event root cause analyses.
  • Support Operations and collaborate with Engineering Support Teams to address production and sustainment issues to facilitate the timely delivery of engines.
  • Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process while demonstrating rigor in technical approach.
  • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost weight and part life.
  • Interpret review and approve product definition data (prints and models).
  • Travel up to 10% to Tinker AFB in OK and various suppliers as required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • BS in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 5 years of engineering experience 3 years with an advanced degree
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 3 years of experience with Gas turbine engine experience: including design development manufacturing testing and/or maintenance.
  • 3 years of experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994 or newer specification. Experience with ASME Y14.5M-2018 and model based definition is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration innovation and initiative.
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter Unigraphics NX/CAD ANSYS and classical methods of analysis.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design development technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases combustors turbines (vanes blades rotors and cases) augmenters (military) nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering Mechanical Design Structural Analysis Durability and Product Definition.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles commuting to and from the assigned site is the employees personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 82000 USD - 164000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
