Job Summary:
The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is looking for a full-time Sterilization Technician II to support the CUDT clinics and pre-doctoral programs. Under the direction of the Clinical Support Services department leadership our Sterilization Technicians support clinical operations for the entire School of Dental Medicine (SDM). These positions are integral to dental education clinical operations focusing on sterilization and sterile processing with the opportunity for training and career growth in the healthcare industry.

Key Responsibilities:
Instrument and Equipment Sterilization 85%
- Cleans and decontaminates instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques.
- Ensures proper functioning of equipment.
- Cleans and sanitizes machines and equipment.
- Maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution.
- Issues sterile reusable instruments to the clinical units.
- Collects and reprocesses reusable patient care dirty case carts from all clinical floors and transports them to the main sterile instrumentation to all clinical floors via case cart.
- Prepares specialized instrument set-ups for undergraduate students residents and faculty to be used during dental patient treatment.
Instrument Distribution 15%
- Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units; collects and re-sterilizes used instruments. Prepares specialized instrument setups for undergraduate students residents and faculty to be used during dental patient treatment.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the unit to include scheduling directing the work of others and providing input on performance evaluations.

Qualifications:
Please make sure to include the following in your resume: job title duties months and years employed and average hours worked per week as minimum experience is calculated on a 40 hour/week basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in sterilizing dental and /or medical instruments and equipment which included at least one year of experience preparing specialized dental instrument setups.
- Completion of a Sterile Processing Certification program OR a Dental Assistant Certification may substitute for the general sterilization experience but not for the one year of specific experience with specialized dental instrument setups

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification either as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or as a Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
- Experience working in a centralized sterilization laboratory.
- Experience in all stages of the sterilization process including decontamination preparation and packaging storage and distribution.
- Experience sterilizing medical or dental equipment where sterilization duties consist of at least 50% of positions assigned duties.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of individuals
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in decision making
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong oral communication skills
- Knowledge of dental/medical terminology
- Knowledge of dental/medical materials tools instruments and equipment
- Knowledge of proper use and technique of dental tools and instruments
- Knowledge of proper sterilization and aseptic processes procedures requirements tools and equipment

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $3651- $4235.16 per month ($42948- $50822 per year).
This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
The above hiring range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series as this position your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1 2024.
