Qualifications
Experience as a coach or participant in the sport. Knowledge of PIAA rules and regulations related to the sport. Ability to relate to student participants in a professional manner. Knowledge of the skills and strategies that apply to the sport. Leadership skills.
Summary Purpose of Position
The head coach of any sport accepts the responsibility for overseeing the entire scope of the Districts interscholastic programs offered with that sport.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head Coach is responsible for the athletes student trainers and student managers under her/his supervision. The Head Coach works with the Principals the Assistant Principal and the Director of Athletics in order to provide students with an appropriate athletic experience. The Head Coach is hired on an annual contract basis and is evaluated by the Director Athletics at the end of the athletic season.
- Organizes a pre-season meeting to disperse pre-season information to probable team candidates.
- Selects players for fielding a representative team based on ability and eligibility.
- Designates duties and placement of assistant coaches in the program and evaluates the assistant coachs performance of these duties at the end of the season with the assistance of the Athletic Director.
- Submits to the Athletic Director monthly facilities schedules for practices and contests.
- Organizes a system of play training rules and criteria for earning school awards at each playing level.
- Provides the Athletic Director with a complete and up-to-date roster of competitive teams at each level after the first week of practice and continues to update this roster as needed.
- Models conduct sportsmanship and language at all athletic events and athletic-related events that is acceptable by school-district standards.
- Sets an appropriate standard of appearance for coaches and athletes and requires the coaches and athletes on trips to dress in a manner that reflects in a positive way on the school.
- Supports all school board policies and administrative guidelines.
- Attends mandatory P.I.A.A. rules interpretations meetings and all head coach meetings scheduled.
- Insures the safety of the players through careful planning of conditioning practice sessions proper equipment use of equipment and game conditions.
- Distributes maintains collects reconditions and stores the athletic equipment assigned to the program.
- Reports all faulty equipment or unsatisfactory facilities to the Athletic Director.
- Places the welfare of the student athlete and the reputation of the school above the result of the contest.
- Insures the proper supervision of all practice sessions locker rooms before and after practice and that at least one coach remains until all team members have left the building.
- Insures the proper building security before and after practices and inform the Athletic Director of any problems or concerns.
- Insures the supervision of the team and individuals to and from away athletic contests.
- Insists upon the best in sportsmanship language and conduct of each athlete student trainer student manager and assistant coach at all practices games and trips.
- When necessary disciplines members of the squad in compliance with the school district policies and building-level administrative guidelines and with the approval of the Principal and Athletic Director.
- Provides the results of a contest to the media and high school office for announcements.
- Arranges with the Athletic Doirector a schedule for taking pictures.
- Determines award winners presents awards at award programs and makes arrangements for the season end party.
- Submits a statistical summary to the Athletic Director at the end of the season.
- Within 30 days of the completion of the season meets with the Athletic Director receive an end-of-season evaluation.
- Presents an updated inventory of all equipment to the Athletic Director at the conclusion of the season.
- Proposes a budgetary request for the next year if she/he will be coaching.
- Performs all other duties related to the sport as may be delegated by the Athletic Director.
