The Department ofPublic Worksis responsible fordelivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructuremaintainingCity facilities and fleet assetsfacilitating and regulating development activities and providing animal care and services. The total salary range for Security Officer classification is $65083.20- $79082.64.
This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall bedeterminedby the final candidates qualifications and experience.
TheDepartment of Public Worksis currently seeking to fillone(1)full-timeSecurity Officervacancyin theFacilities Management Division.This positionis responsible forperforming work focused on security services at City Hall and providing a safe and orderly environment for staff and the public.Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Providing service to customersmonitoringclosed circuit video and access control systems in Security Operation Center (SOC).
Escorting contractors to perform maintenance on security equipment.
Monitoring and/or inspecting vehicles at the garage entrance.
Issuing access badges to employees interns or contractors for City Hall and other off-site locations.
Provide security coverage for various city meetings public or private eventscommissionsand hearings in addition to coordinating with Police and Fire during emergency operations medical calls or other related calls of servicepertaining tothe City Hall campus.
While on duty incumbents of this position willbe requiredto wear the approved uniform for this classification which includes a jacket and safetyshoesor work boots approved by the department. This classification receives an annual uniform allowance every year through the MEF bargaining unit Memorandum of Agreement.
All officersare required tomaintaina professional appearance.
Selected candidate will need to successfully complete a background check prior to date of hire.
Current shifts for this position are Monday through Friday day and swingshifts with added graveyard shifts on the weekends and/or holidays. This position may also at times require overtime with early-ins or hold overs to provide coverage for meetingseventsor special projects during the week or on the weekend that could fall on a City of San Josrecognized holiday.
Education:Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development GED Test or California Proficiency Certificate).
Experience:One (1) year of experience in security safety or law enforcement.
Required Licensing:Possession of a valid State of California Drivers license.
Physical requirements:
Ability to liftbarricadesbollardsandsafety cones weighingupto40-50 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk throughout shifts for meetings and event coverages as necessary.
