Department Overview
The Eisercise Specialist provides services under the direction of the physical therapist for patient care related assistance in Rehabilitation Services. The exercise specialist also provides nonphysical therapy exercise training and athletic training duties. When assisting therapists the individual works under the direction of the and supervision of a licensed therapist and in accordance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies and procedures. When providing non physical therapy exercise training the individual carries out a maintenanceexercise plan. These duties do not require direct supervision. The individual also provides cleaning and preparation of treatment areas and stocking of linen supplies and other duties. The Exercise Specialist recognizes and addresses age-appropriate needs when caring for patients. In addition the Exercise Specialist assists in maintaining the practice environment in a clean orderly condition. The Exercise Specialist assists with the delivery of care in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Relief employees must be available to work at least four (4) days per pay period as determined according to the Employers needs
Function/Duties of Position
Assists therapists or exercise physiologists with patient management -rehabilitation/ strength and conditioning programs in rehabilitation therapyor cardiac rehabilitation. Provides non physical therapy maintenanceinterventions to patients who have been discharged from physical therapy(or discharged portion of the plan of care)
Prepares patient treatment rooms gym equipment prior to the visit to ensure the proper equipment and supplies are set-up for therapy treatments.
Communicate need for supplies to Admin Coordinator and helps track receipt and places logistics orders.
- Ensures Cleanliness and Infection control in rooms/gym.
Demonstrates competence and serves as a resource for other staff as relatedto rehabilitation technology (body weight assisted treadmill functionalelectrical stimulation bike for example)
Schedules patients in on-line scheduling system; places calls to patients as areminder of their appointments- Epic Scheduling assistance as needed
Required Qualifications
A minimum of Bachelor degree in exercise science or related field health & wellness field;AND
One year of related experience including good communication skills for teaching; AND
May require Automatic External Defibrillator First Aide and CPR certified;AND
American Heart Healthcare Provider BLS Certification (ACLS Certification within 6 months of hire); OR
An equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Athletic Trainer Certified
- NATA BOC Oregon ATC License ACLS Certification
- Communication skills Teaching Prior experience as a physical therapy aide.

- Typical outpatient environment may include travel on campus or between outpatient clinic locations.
