Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Chassis Integration Technician to join our heavy equipment manufacturing team. This role focuses on the integration of hydraulic electrical and mechanical systems for dump truck chassis including programming control switches and performing comprehensive troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chassis Integration
    • Install and integrate hydraulic lift systems PTO (Power Take-Off) units and dump body mechanisms onto truck chassis
    • Align and mount dump bodies to ensure proper weight distribution and structural integrity
    • Install and configure hydraulic pumps cylinders valves and associated plumbing
    • Integrate electrical harnesses and control systems with chassis wiring
    • Perform final assembly of all chassis components including air brake systems lighting and safety equipment
  • Switch Programming and Controls
    • Program and configure electronic control modules (ECMs) for dump body operations
    • Set up and calibrate hydraulic control switches joysticks and cab-mounted control panels
    • Program safety interlocks and protection systems to prevent unsafe operating conditions
    • Configure body-up warning systems backup alarms and work lights
    • Test and validate all programmed functions against specifications
  • Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
    • Diagnose hydraulic system malfunctions including pressure flow and temperature issues
    • Troubleshoot electrical problems using multimeters oscilloscopes and diagnostic software
    • Identify and resolve mechanical integration issues such as misalignment or interference
    • Perform root cause analysis on field returns and warranty claims
    • Document troubleshooting procedures and create corrective action documents
  • Quality Assurance
    • Conduct pre-delivery inspections and functional testing of all integrated systems
    • Verify compliance with DOT regulations and industry safety standards
    • Maintain detailed records of integration specifications and test results
    • Collaborate with quality control team to implement continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology Automotive Technology or equivalent experience. ASE certification in Heavy Truck or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience in heavy equipment integration or automotive assembly. Proficiency with hydraulic systems including pumps cylinders valves and filtration. Experience with 12V and 24V electrical systems CAN bus networks and multiplexing. Familiarity with PLC programming and electronic control systems. Experience with Parker Eaton or Muncie hydraulic components preferred. Familiarity with Allison automatic transmissions and PTO systems preferred. Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques preferred. Experience with fleet management software and telematics systems preferred.
  • Skills: Understanding of truck chassis specifications and weight distribution principles. Knowledge of DOT regulations for commercial vehicles. Experience with diagnostic tools and software (preferably Cummins INSITE Detroit Diesel DTNA International Paccar or similar controls package). Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics electrical diagrams and assembly drawings.
  • Other: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Comfortable working in various positions including crawling under vehicles. Manual dexterity for precision work with small components and connections Ability to work in shop environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
