Senior Finance Coordinator


The National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Finance Coordinator to support the financial operations of our national office. Reporting to the Director of Finance and working closely with other teams this role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting maintaining internal controls and contributing to the financial health and accountability of NAFC. The successful candidate will play a key role in budgeting forecasting compliance and funding reconciliation processes in a dynamic mission-driven environment.

This job might be for you if:

  • You have strong knowledge of accounting principles financial systems and internal controls;
  • You have hands-on experience with budgeting reconciliations and financial reporting;

  • You are proficient with financial software (Sage Intaact) and Excel;

The ability to work in both official languages or Indigenous languages is an asset. This role has an expected salary range of $75000-$85000.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Senior Finance Coordinator


Job Overview

The Senior Finance Coordinator will work under the Finance Director and play a pivotal role in delivering the financial reports contributing towards the budgeting process and assisting with improving internal controls. Accuracy and attention to detail are key elements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly quarterly and annual financial statements ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards to funders managers and board members.
  • Reviewing actual amounts incurred/received against budgeted amounts and providing a commentary. Analyzing financial data to identify trends and areas of improvement.
  • Assisting with the Budgeting and Costings process.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Providing information requested to audits.
  • Monitoring and maintaining assigned accounts including bank reconciliations and assigned Fund accounts. Taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Processing bi-weekly NAFC payroll.
  • Conveying financial information to stakeholders such as managers executives board members and funders and answering questions about the NAFCs financial performance.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and recommending solutions to streamline financial operations.
  • Flexible approach towards period of absence - managing accounts receivable payable including but not limited to processing payments.
  • Creating GL codes to reflect required financial reporting requirements.
  • Closing the SAGE accounting system at month-end and year-end ensuring that year-end journal adjustments are aligned with the audited financial statements.

Qualifications

  • Proven relevant work experience in finance accounting or related field;
  • Bachelors degree or college diploma in finance accounting or a related field an asset;
  • Minimum 57 years of experience in financial management preferably in a nonprofit or Indigenous organization.
  • Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software;
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and financial laws & regulations;
  • Experience in leading finance team;
  • Strong technical skills in accounting software spreadsheet and financial management tools;
  • Strong analytical interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner;
  • Confidentiality in maintaining sensitive financial information;
  • Relevant designation or progress toward certification (e.g. CFA/CPA) is an asset;
  • The ability to speak in both official languages is an asset. The ability to speak an Indigenous language is also an asset.
