Job Description
Truman State University (Truman; the University) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for University Advancement (VPUA). This cabinet-level position requires an executive leader with exceptional strategic vision relationship-building skills and a proven track record in philanthropy donor stewardship and institutional advancement. The Vice President for University Advancement serves as a key ambassador for the university fostering strong partnerships with alumni donors community leaders and other stakeholders to enhance the institutions financial sustainability and further strategic initiatives.
Founded in 1867 in Kirksville Missouri Truman State University has evolved through several name changes each reflecting a new institutional mission. In 1985 when the passage of Missouri House Bill 196 changed the Universitys mission from an open-enrollment regional multipurpose university to Missouris only statewide public liberal arts and sciences institution the Universitys name was Northeast Missouri State University. In 1996 the name of the University was changed to Truman State University to reflect that mission.

Truman is nationally recognized for the quality of educational opportunities it offers and the pathways it has developed from college to career. Located in Kirksville Missouri Truman plays a vital role in the thriving regional center of northeast Missouri. The campus spreads across 180 acres and is recognized as a Tree Campus USA School. As a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university Truman is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). Across an expansive academic portfolio that includes the liberal arts and sciences and professional studies Truman offers 50 undergraduate majors 71 undergraduate minors two undergraduate certificates and 13 micro-credentials. Truman also offers 12 masters degree programs and two graduate certificates. Outside the classroom the Truman Bulldogs compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Truman offers 16 Division II sports teams as well as eSports and intramural athletics.

Reporting to the President the VPUA serves as the chief advancement officer for the University and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. The VPUA advises the President on all matters pertaining to the management and operation of university development alumni relations and donor relations. The VPUA also works closely with the Truman State University Foundation Board of Directors to raise funds to benefit the University. The VPUA will effectively lead manage mentor develop and evaluate the advancement staff of five direct reports and a total of 12 employees. The VPUA is responsible for the following administrative units and functions: Development Engagement and Alumni Relations Stewardship - Donor Relations and Special Events Prospect Research and Advancement Services.
The successful candidate should possess a record of progressive achievement in fundraising or a related development context including capital campaign and major gift solicitation as well as donor alumni and stakeholder/community engagement. This highly organized professional will have knowledge of best practices in advancement; experience in strategic planning; and problem solving and decision-making abilities. This innovative leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills will promote the Truman mission and brand while engendering trust amongst the University constituents and stakeholders. A bachelors degree is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and include a base salary and a competitive benefits package.
