Job Description

Position Information

Under direction supervise assigned personnel and activities involved in the overall operations of a departmental supply unit storeroom or warehouse including the receipt and issuance of a variety of medical and/or non-medical equipment materials supplies tools and confidential and non-confidential records and maintenance of goods within service levels; performs other duties as required.

The Supervising Storekeeper class is a single position classification assigned to supervise and review the work of the Storekeeper series. The incumbent will evaluate plan schedule and coordinate the daily activities of assigned personnel.

This class is distinguished from the next lower class of Senior Storekeeper in that the latter works as a lead worker within an assigned team.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used Department-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time part-time or temporary basis.

Examples of Duties

Nothing in this specification restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

  1. Directs assigns and reviews the work of assigned personnel; prepares performance evaluations; makes hire recommendations; recommends or initiates disciplinary action; evaluates training and development needs of staff and arranges for training.
  2. Performs and/or oversees the most complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility which may include the operations of a storeroom or warehouse; receives and delivers a variety of medical and/or non-medical equipment materials supplies tools and confidential and non-confidential records; verify items received against packing lists and purchase orders; count or weigh the items; store items in prescribed areas bins racks shelves and floor or work site; pack and ship materials supplies tools and equipment.
  3. Evaluates customer needs and makes decisions regarding specifications and authorize purchases of supplies and equipment.
  4. Reviews current regulations and determines policy regarding storage retrieval and destruction of records and confidential materials.
  5. Analyzes establishes and implements policies procedures standards methodologies and inventory control processes to maintain adequate operations
  6. Maintains and manages a variety of automated systems requisition forms and/or database; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports on inventory control expenditures for management.
  7. Plans directs and oversees recordkeeping duties in support of the inventory control function; may use an on-line computer system to access inventory and related information.
  8. Plans directs and oversees inventory stock as scheduled or required; operate a delivery vehicle to collect materials from and to make deliveries to County locations.
  9. Establishes and implements proper safety procedures and techniques; may monitor equipment maintenance and repair contracts.

Knowledge and Skills:
1. Principles and practices of supervision including organization scheduling training evaluation and discipline.
2. Methods used in the receipt storage and issuance or delivery of a wide variety of medical and/or nonmedical items
3. Methods of inventory records and maintenance.
4. Common units of weights and measures.
5. Business arithmetic including percentages and decimals.
6. Forklifts and other materials handling equipment including pallet jacks hoists and carts.

Working knowledge of:
1. Warehousing practices computerized inventory control programs and stock record systems.
2. Accepted safety practices in lifting storing materials and operation of warehouse handling equipment.
3. Automated records management methodologies practices and procedures including confidential and non-confidential records.
4. Principles and practices of office management relating to workflow governmental purchasing and maintenance of records and inventory.

Skill and Ability to:
1. Supervise plan organize direct and review work of assigned personnel.
2. Select supervise train review and evaluate assigned personnel.
3. Schedule and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines; work independently with minimal direction.
4. Operates standard office machines such as personal computer printer copier calculator and fax.
machine and the ability to instruct others on proper usage5. Maintain accurate inventory supply records and files6. Safely operate motor vehicles including commercial trucks and forklifts.
7. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
8. Use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
10. Perform tasks which require physical strength and agility; lift and move heavy or bulky boxes.

Minimum Qualifications

The knowledges skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through various types of experiences education or training typically:

One year of experience performing the duties equivalent in level to a Warehouse Worker with Monterey County.

OR

Three years of experience in a supply room or warehouse in work involving the receipt storage issuance and shipping of various supplies.

Supplemental Information

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The ability to speak read and write Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position but is not required.
  • Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.
  • The Department of Social Services will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
  • Monterey County like all employers is required to verify an employees right to work in the United States. Accordingly on the first day of employment employees must have and show those documents that verify their legal right to work in the United States. Examples of accepted documentation are a U.S. Passport or Alien Registration Card or a drivers license and Social Security Card or a drivers license and U.S. Birth Certificate.
  • Additionally our agency requires a valid social security card in order to process employee paychecks. Accordingly on the first day of employment employees must have and show this document.
  • Government agencies accessing US government information which includes federal tax information must ensure that background investigation requirements for all agency employees and contractors that have access to federal tax information are consistent with the IRS background investigation requirements for access to federal tax information. A background check may be required if the position requires access to these types of records. Background requirements consist of three components which include fingerprinting citizenship verification and local law enforcement checks. Applicable agencies must conduct an investigation during the time of hire and ensure an investigation is conducted 10 years from the date of the previous background investigation for each employee that has access to federal tax information.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE EXAMINATION WEIGHTED 100%
The Training & Experience Examination is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each candidates knowledge skill abilities and potential to effectively perform the duties relative to the classification. Responses to the questionnaire will be assessed based on pre-determined rating criteria. All applicants must complete the entire examination to receive a score. In order to obtain a position on the eligible list candidates must receive a minimum rating of 70% on the examination.

Examination administration and processing time is approximately two weeks after the closing date of the job bulletin.

If conditions warrant an Experience and Education Examination may be conducted in lieu of theTraining and ExperienceExamination. Please review the Education and Experience examination information below:

ELIGIBLE LIST INFORMATION
A departmental promotional eligible list will be established for the county of Monterey. The list will be utilized for 12 months after it is established unless the needs of the service and conditions of the list warrant a change in this period.

RETEST PERIOD
Once you have taken the examination you may not retest for SIX (6) MONTHS from the established eligibility date.
