Summary of the Job
The primary responsibilities of the Metallurgist/Polymer Specialist I are conducting analysis on materials using a variety of methodologies. Metallurgists/polymer scientists may examine a materials structure using various techniques including optical and electron microscopes. Metallurgists and Polymer Specialists also conduct tests to determine the cause of failures of different materials and components.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform testing with interpretation and report writing
Consult with customers to determine the type of analysis required obtain background information
Assist with regular calibrations of lab equipment
Update chemical and equipment inventories
Other duties as assigned
Required Education/Experience:
B. S. in Engineering or Physical Science
0-2 years experience in a metallurgical laboratory environment
Necessary Skills:
Analytical Skills
Math and science skills
Problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedures.

Work is performed mostly in a lab setting. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift objects up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distant vision color vision peripheral vision and depth perception.
