The Pre-Award Manager works with faculty/staff to secure critical funding for the university through the daily development and submission of grant proposals and budgets in a deadline-driven fast-paced environment. Proposed projects vary widely and learning is constant. The Pre-Award Manager supports direct day-to-day Pre-Award service within Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP). This position serves as a contact for pre-award inquiries as well as grant proposal development preparation and submission. As such the position communicates and coordinates with a diverse population of faculty staff and external constituents in developing and submitting responses to grant opportunities across a range of fields/disciplines. The position provides review and guidance to investigators in the development of their budgets statements of work and other required proposal documents by posted deadlines.
The Pre-Award Manager learns to interpret sponsor guidelines and potential issues consults with investigators and ensures that all pre-award requirements are completed in a timely manner for external funding opportunities.
RSP supports and facilitates faculty staff and the campus community in their successful pursuit of external funding to support research instructional creative and public service efforts. This support includes technical assistance oversight and assurance of institutional compliance.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
