Job Description

Position Title:

Assistant Director Athletics Facilities and Event Management

Time Type:

Full time

Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Assistant Director for Athletics Facilities and Event Management is responsible for assisting with the daily operations and management of practice competition and other activities for the 21 intercollegiate athletics programs at Saint Josephs University. The Assistant Director will assist with monitoring and preparing facilities and equipment for clean safe and high-quality functionality training and supervising student staff and serving as the primary event manager for home competitions as assigned. The position requires a proactive approach to event management and coordinating with internal and external partners and will assist in athletics facilities maintenance and equipment room operations as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare athletics facilities for internal and external events including setup breakdown staffing and support services as needed.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections of athletics areas as assigned by the Director of Athletics Facilities and Event Management.

  • Coordinate with University facilities housekeeping contracted third parties etc. to ensure facilities and associated equipment are clean safe and properly maintained.

  • Assist in coordinating with campus partners on parking security and other operational issues related to home athletics competitions.

  • Responsible for requesting appropriate access levels for all staff and students as needed; work with the Office of Public Safety to update access and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

  • Implement and enforce facility hours of operation access/use policies and procedures and scheduled timing for programming and events.

  • Recruit train schedule evaluate and oversee payroll for all game operations student staff.

  • Understand and enforce the Lower Merion zoning regulations.

  • Serve as the primary event manager for multiple sports as assigned.

  • Problem solve issues any that arise including working with athletic trainers and others to manage all safety issues involving weather and injuries.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to students staff campus partners and guests and help to foster and maintain an inclusive environment that is welcoming to all.

  • Assist in the scheduling of athletics facilities for use by intercollegiate athletics programs club sports intramurals recreation programming and other internal and external use.

  • Assist with monitoring the scheduling use and maintenance of SJU fleet vehicles.

  • Support and collaborate with business operations facilities and game management staff members as needed.

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain CPR motor vehicle safety certification and other job-related certifications.

  • The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2-4 years of experience in a highly-competitive education-based athletic environment.

  • Previous experience in game management.

  • Previous experience in managing and maintaining athletics facilities.

  • Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to utilize and leverage technology to increase effectiveness and efficiency in completing tasks inherent to this role (documentation/reporting scheduling signage etc.).

  • High-level problem-solving and critical thinking skills strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to adapt prioritize tasks and be decisive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and under pressure.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse constituents.

  • Understand the need for a customer service-focused approach.

  • Adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a Division I athletics department.

  • Previous experience facilities game management and supervising staff.

  • Understand and appreciate the role and importance of facilities and event management in the student experience and the recruiting process.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Ability to lift equipment or other heavy items (50-75 pounds) work in various environmental conditions and otherwise be able to appropriately prepare facilities and equipment for practice competition and special events.

  • Must be able and willing to work long days nights and weekends as needed.
