Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.
The Shooting Sports Supervisor manages firearm and archery range operations and personnel for multiple public ranges across five geographically separated facilities.The incumbent drafts and implements policy and procedures manages procurement of materials and equipment and oversees the delivery of services to public constituents patronizing the ranges ensuring staff facilities and procedures effectively contribute to the safety of public patrons.
Essential Functions:

Oversees operations at six range sites: three firearms ranges and one archery range at Southeast Regional Park seven shotgun sporting clays fields at Southeast Clay Target Center one firearms range at Tucson Mountain Park four archery courses at Tucson Mountain Park and two sub-ranges at Virgil Ellis Firearms Range in Ajo;
Schedules supervises mentors and disciplines staff including intermittent and one full-time employee and volunteer staff;
Manages and monitors program logistics including firearms and ammunition inventory archery equipment and key control;
Responsible for conforming operational expenses to established budget;
Purchases operational equipment and material reconciling expenditures against budgeted funding;
Creates and maintains program personnel material and financial records managing employee timecards and time log paperwork;
Drafts updates revises policy recommendations to supervisor;
Performs on-duty manager functions during public operations resolving staff and customer issues and complaints;
Addresses emergent operational needs and problems on the spot serving as decision authority for issues incidents and crises up-channeling incident reporting as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university AND five years working with firearms and experience administering organizational or public funds INCLUDINGthree years of supervisory experience.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
Three years with Pima County in a Shooting Sports Coordinator or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Possess a National Rifle Association or United States Marine Corps or United States Army: Marksmanship Rifle Pistol Shotgun Instructor Certification.
Possess a National Rifle Association Range Development and Operations Certification.
Minimum one (1) year in a leadership role at a shooting facility such as a supervisor rangemaster lead instructor non-commissioned officer commissioned officer or as a firearms instructor for a public agency or military.
Post secondary education or other specialized training degree certificate in firearms.
Possess a distinguished rifle pistol international shooting qualification or winning team member of the national trophy individual national trophy in a common shooting discipline. For example service rifle bullseye pistol IPSIC small bore air pistol sport pistol trap skeet or sporting clays.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
Physical / Sensory Work Requirements: Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.
Working Conditions: All positions require the ability to work in extremes of noise heat cold dust and pollen and prolonged exposure to sun wind and inclement weather and the ability to wear and maintain required safety and personal protective equipment.
