Job Description

Overview

Location: Camp CONNRI (Ashford CT)

Status: Seasonal Full-time

Rate of Pay: $3500-4000stipend plus room board bedding laundry facilities and recreational facilities provided

Schedule: The dates of agreed employment are to be 7/12/2025 - 8/2/2025.

Position Purpose: Responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and safe.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care to meet the individual needs of camp staff and campers.
  • Follow health care policies/procedures described in the camps medical protocols.
  • Keep regular Health Center hours and always be available for emergencies.
  • Contact on-call physician when necessary.
  • Clean organize and set up the Health Center in preparation for the first day of camp.
  • Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Plan and schedule proper medication times throughout the day for campers to receive appropriate medicine.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file.
  • Prepare utilize and maintain health logs daily and ensure they are signed by the on-call physician weekly.
  • Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms.
  • Keep complete reports of diagnoses and prescriptions.
  • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles kitchen dining hall offices waterfront program areas and cabins.
  • Provide orientation on the following information: standing orders clinic hours specific campers health and social needs health center procedures emergency procedures growth and development of age groups staff health assessment of campers policies contacting parents accident prevention and risk management nutrition and first aid in the camp setting.
  • Provide specific orientation on the following information: Epi-pen usage Blood-borne pathogens proper hand washing and overall general health and hygiene.
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
  • Conduct a health assessment screening.
  • Verify health history examination.
  • Verify emergency contact and authorization.
  • Supervise train and evaluate the Nurse Assistant.
  • Be responsible for contacting parents concerning their childs health status by telephone in the following situations: any injury requiring an x-ray illness requiring a stay in the health center or requiring a camper to be picked up from camp emergency treatment/accident etc.
  • Evaluate the camp medical services and prepare a brief of the necessary information for the next Camp Nurse.
  • Be knowledgeable of outside health resources.
  • Participate in the Total Camping Program
  • Sit with campers at all programs and in the dining hall as scheduled.
  • Observe and assess the sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.
  • Abide by the Camps Personnel Policies and Practices as outlined in the Camp Staff Manual including the requirements that all domestic staff leave the campgrounds during all staff breaks between camping periods and that smoking drinking of alcoholic beverages use of illegal drugs and immoral conduct during the period of this agreement will be grounds for immediate dismissal.
  • Strive to be a personal example in conduct conversation and attitude consistent with established policies and procedures.
  • Agree not to attempt to teach any differing views of doctrine or practices or to press them upon other staff members campers or guests while employed by The Salvation Army.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Must have a current RN LPN or PA certification.
  • Must be certified in the state of Connecticut.
  • Must be certified in Advanced First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is preferred.
  • Must abide by Camp CONNRI policies as outlined in the Staff Manual.
  • Experience in both children and adult illness/injury.
  • Desire to work with children and young adults.
  • Community health knowledge.
  • Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels health forms physician orders and parent letters.
  • Ability to use a telephone and maintain a written record system.
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to communicate with parents staff and administration about camper health concerns.
  • Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.
  • Ability to drive off-camp to health providers physicians or emergency treatment locations.
