Job Description

SUMMARY

The Instructor EMS/Clinical Coordinator will teach EMS courses at all levels adhering to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) curricula. This instructor will also plan create and oversee program clinical experiences for Paramedic and other EMS programming.

This position reports to the Fire/EMS Program Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction

  1. Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  2. Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  3. Prepare a course syllabus which includes course requirements attendance requirements and grading criteria.
  4. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  5. Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  6. Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  7. Promote the education/training program participate in efforts to recruit and retain students and participate in efforts to market Gateway.
  8. Support student organizations and activities.
  9. Develop relationships with business and industry.
  10. Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  11. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  12. Adhere to class schedules. Meet attendance standards.
  13. Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  14. Maintain confidentiality relating to student matters.
  15. Participate in college campus and department evaluation processes.
  16. Attend meetings as scheduled.
  17. Promote the education/training program participate in efforts to recruit and retain students and participate in efforts to market Gateway.
  18. Comply with college policies and procedures and department guidelines.
  19. Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  20. Perform other job related duties.
Clinical Coordination
  1. Assist the Fire/EMS Program Director with administrative tasks and data collection related to clinical education ensuring alignment with CoAEMSP criteria as well as the programs mission goals and objectives.
  2. Recruit and visit potential clinical sites each semester.
  3. Ensure that all active clinical affiliation agreements are valid current and complete.
  4. Monitor students completion of clinical and site-specific requirements.
  5. Communicate clinical education information to faculty clinical sites clinical education personnel and students as appropriate.
  6. Review and approve student documentation for clinical and field rotations to ensure compliance with both site and program requirements.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in a related field
  • Current certification as AHA ACLS Provider
  • Current certification as AHA BLS Provider
PLUS
  • At least 7 Years (14000 hours) of paid documented occupational work experience as a Paramedic
OR
  • at least 4 years (8000 hours) work experience as a registered nurse.

PLUS
  • Current Wisconsin licensure as a Paramedic
OR
  • Credentialed as a Nationally Registered EMT-P with the ability to obtain the Wisconsin Licensure as a Paramedic as a condition of employment
* Included in the above experience at least 2000 hours of demonstrated relevant occupational experience must be within the last five yearsORat least 2 years of full-time (8 semesters of part-time) post secondary teaching experience in the occupational field must be within the last five years.


Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  1. Ability to work with diverse group of student populations.
  2. It is essential that all instructors have basic computer skills to able to utilize various software systems for student correspondence and grades.
  3. Skilled in teaching a wide range of related subjects.
  4. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Effective problem solving skills.
