Job Description

Job Description
50% - Support research project related to Korean-speaking populations including interviewing families and administering speech and language tests to children aged 4-6.
30% - Transcribe and score standardized speech and language tests administered to Korean-English bilingual children.
10% - Engage with Korean-speaking families in the Kansas City metropolitan area/Lawrence as needed.
10% - Perform administrative and organizational tasks as assigned.

  1. Must speak and write Korean fluently.

  1. Having a means of transportation to travel within and between the Kansas City metropolitan area and Lawrence is preferred but not required.
  2. Degree in or majoring in Speech-Language-Hearing (SPLH) Linguistics Psychology Education East Asian Languages & Cultures Applied Behavioral Science Anthropology allied health fields or a related field.
  3. Experience with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and/or transcribing speech.
  4. Experience working with children and/or special populations.


Position Overview
The Speech in Little Bilinguals Lab (SLBL) at KU is seeking a Korean-speaking student researcher for an on-campus position starting August 2025 or earlier. This role is ideal for students looking to gain hands-on experience while supporting research and/or community-based initiatives.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
