Job Description

Job Title:

High School Dean of Academics

Work Days:

Reports To:

Principal

Supervises:

HS Teachers College counselors and any person that relates to the HS instructional program

Primary Role:

Evaluate and provide leadership for the instructional program of the high school; Provide the systemic study and analysis of the teaching-learning process and the development implementation and evaluation of instructional programs; Provide the development alignment and implementation of quality curriculum to enhance student achievement; Plan and provide professional development for teachers and staff. Lead the college and career preparation.

Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree is preferred
  • Current North Carolina license or be in process of obtaining one
  • Minimum K-12 School leadership experience: 3 years
  • STEM background high school administration and/or college counseling experience is a plus

    4. Systematically and personally involves him/herself in the schools professional activities
  5. Managerial Leadership
    1. Ensures the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting staffing problem-solving communicating expectations and schedules that result in organizing the work routines of the school
    2. Develops the master schedule that provides collaborative planning for every teacher
    3. Develops and enforces clear expectations structures rules and procedures for students and staff
  6. External Development Leadership
    1. Designs structures and processes that result in community engagement support and ownership
    2. Creates a system that engages all community stakeholders in shared responsibility for student and school success
    3. Ensures compliance with state and TMSA mandates
  7. Micropolitical Leadership
    1. Builds systems and relationships with staff in order to leverage their expertise power and influence to realize the schools vision for success
    2. Creates environment and mechanisms to ensure all internal stakeholder voices are heard and respected
    3. Uses performance as a primary criterion for reward and advancement
  8. Academic Achievement Leadership
    1. Leaders work will result in acceptable measurable progress for students based on established performance expectations and will use appropriate data to demonstrate growth
    2. This area is based on a school-wide student growth value as calculated by the statewide growth model for educator effectiveness

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate through the professional growth of teachers and staff improved student performance as measured by course work EOC AP and other assessment data.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional resources to meet student learning needs.
  • Facilitate and assist with the development of an effective campus improvement plan based on student needs.
  • Coach and train teachers to utilize various instructional strategies to meet student learning needs.
  • Model effective classroom management and instructional techniques which when appropriately implemented by the classroom teacher will lead to improved student performance.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff development programs designed to fulfill the professional growth needs of the junior high school and high school staff.
  • Provide leadership in the identification evaluation and selection of instructional programs resources and equipment with regard to increased student achievement.
  • Collaborate with college counselors and high school lead teachers in the identification evaluation and selection of instructional programs resources and equipment with regard to a well-designed college and career preparation program
  • Effectively work with and serve as a liaison between the campuses and the curriculum instruction and assessment department regarding student assessment improvement planning curriculum and instruction revision and development.
  • Facilitate and assist with the alignment of campus and district curriculum.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate staff development opportunities to increase job performance and effectiveness.
  • Manage and coordinate meetings with the high school lead teachers to plan design and implement successful instructional programs and strategies.
  • Coordinate EOC AP tutorials remediation credit recovery and MTSS processes on campus.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law NC DPI rule and the TMSA board policy.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues students and parents.
  • Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the programs within the areas of assigned supervision and implement changes based on those findings.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Consult with parents teachers administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
  • Develop needed professional skills appropriate to personal growth and professional job assignments.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
  • Articulate to the community the districts mission and goals in all areas of assigned responsibility and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Demonstrate effective customer service strategies to all district patrons.
  • Effectively utilizes the latest technology to continuously improve the management of the school and enhance student instruction
  • Collaborate with college counselors in monitoring college continuation data.
  • Monitor student and staff attendance collaborate with the dean of student culture to improve attendance
  • Collaborate with the dean of student culture to maintain acceptable student behavior in all areas of the school
  • Collaborate with the dean of student culture to establish and maintain a safe environment for all staff and students
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal
