DescriptionThe Clinical Assistant Professor at the Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing (PSON) demonstrates competence and strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School of Nursing. The Clinical Assistant Professor works closely with nursing students in accelerated and RN to BS academic programs through lectures clinical simulation learning activities and through experiential learning in acute care and community health settings. The Clinical Assistant Professor applies the most current educational theories to teaching and learning which supports students at all levels.
ResponsibilitiesTeaching Responsibilities:
- Teaches assigned lecture clinical and simulation courses in baccalaureate (accelerated bachelors and RN to BSN completion) and graduate programs.
- Demonstrates an understanding of contemporary teaching strategies including active learning simulated experiential learning and clinical experiential learning in hospital or other health care settings or in community care situations as required by course assignments.
- Contributes to curricular design and demonstrates and understanding of recommended curricular changes for nursing programs.
- Engages in curriculum work including course descriptions course objectives and content delivery approaches within the faculty governance structure.
- Participates in curriculum and course planning at the undergraduate and graduate levels using relevant teaching and learning strategies for the specific degree-granting program.
- Contributes to furthering the academic-practice partnerships that contribute to student learning practice improvement or community outreach.
Scholarship Responsibilities
- Establishes a plan for scholarly work in areas of individual interest that may include clinical programs of research evaluation studies to improve teaching and learning implementation science.
- Establishes professional relationships with a community of scholars at the regional national and/or global level.
- Develops manuscripts of scholarly work for publication in peer-reviewed journals professional organizations and other publication outlets.
Service Responsibilities
- Serves as an active participant in PSON and/or Health System service activities including faculty governance committees community outreach activities or project workgroups.
- Holds active membership in professional organizations; may serve as a committee chair board member or hold elected office in these organizations.
- Actively engages in academic activities including faculty development workshops professional organization meetings and conferences and contributions to advancing the schools mission and vision.
QualificationsRequired Education: Doctoral Degree in Nursing or related field.
Qualifications:
Less than three years of full-time faculty experience in undergraduate or graduate programs in nursing; five or more years of active practice experience in clinical settings as a registered nurse (RN) advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).
Experience with clinical instruction active learning concept-based teaching simulation and inter-professional education is desirable.
License/Certification: Required RN - Registered Professional Nurse New York
