Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a self-driven and forward-thinking professional to join our team as a Quality Engineer supporting our Government Services Division (GSD).
You will work directly with Government Services R&D manufacturing and support teams to improve the quality and reliability of products and product assembly.
Development will include extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes material properties statistical process control (SPC) performing dimensional analysis design of experiments (DOE) training technicians and production assemblers. You will also be responsible for maintaining incoming material quality and partnering with suppliers to eliminate material defects.
As a Quality Engineer a typical day might include the following:
Serve as a technical advisor to production operations; troubleshoot material design and assembly issues.
Review customer and product specifications to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
Develop maintain and deploy quality plans to meet project objectives.
Plan design and implement tests to monitor quality. Analyze data to facilitate understanding of product defects.
Partner with suppliers to identify and eliminate the cause of component failures.
Drive improvements in product design assembly and component quality to increase product reliability.
Serve as subject matter expert in internal/external audits and certification activities.
This job might be for you if you have:
A B.S. degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent education and relevant experience
2 years of professional experience in an engineering discipline with a focus on quality
Strong leadership organization and communication skills
Ability to interpret and apply specifications/contractual requirements in a manufacturing setting
Strong project management and problem-solving skills
Experience applying quality tools and process improvement techniques (FMEA Six Sigma PDCA)
Experience in any of the following: design for manufacturability/assembly tolerance studies plastic and metal part design Design of Experiments (DOE)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with/to NAVSEA and Military specifications
Practical knowledge of metals assembly/fabrication and electronics manufacturing
Experience developing performing and recording acceptance inspections in accordance with contractual documents

Pay Range Data:
Quality Engineer $88600 $108100. We base our starting pay offer on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience training knowledge and skills. Our ranges are determined by job responsibility and location.
