Description

Job Title: Staff Engineer II

Reports To: Staff Engineer III or Assistant Director

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Exempt

Approved Date: September 10 2021

I. Purpose of Job

Under limited supervision to perform engineering support to the Engineering Department in the collection and analysis of civil engineering data. Responsibilities may include reviewing development plans for compliance to city specifications functioning as a project manager for capital improvement projects and providing technical knowledge to City staff elected officials and the general public.

VI. Key Competencies Required

Level 4: Read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals financial reports and legal documents. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Effectively present information to top management public groups and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Level 4: Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Level 5: Define complex problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.Encourages others to express their ideas and opinions. Provides input into identifying and solving problems. Anticipates need of others for information about job tasks and work environment and provides it to them in a timely manner. Willingly assists others with job tasks when appropriate.

VIII. Qualifications

Education and Experience: The required knowledge skill and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a bachelors degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in civil engineering or related discipline plus 4 years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
