This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $25.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Environmental Quality. This position is located at 217 W Jones St Raleigh NC 27603.

Position Overview:

The role of the Program Coordinator is to oversee day to day operations of the Tribal Coastal Resilience Connections (TCRC) program on behalf of APNEP and the TCRC team. TCRC is building inter-Tribal coalitions to develop capacity to support Tribal communities in the Albemarle-Pamlico region with considering environmental risk and resilience into planning and community engagement processes. The project concentrates efforts in the Albemarle-Pamlico region program area in southeast Virginia and northeastern North Carolina but aims to learn from and highlight great work that Tribal communities are already doing throughout the southeast coastal plain. A key component includes collaborating with and educating resilience practitioners from agencies universities and other organizations on best practices for engaging with Tribal communities.


Program Coordinator Core Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator will assist in expanding the Tribal Coastal Resilience program and build and maintain relationships with Tribal nations communities and Indigenous organizations as well as serving as a liaison to agencies universities and non-profit entities. The position will assist in raising awareness about impacts associated with environmental change and work with communities to ensure their voices are heard in environmental resilience and adaptation and natural resources planning.


The TCRC Coordinator will lead and assist with managing special projects including conducting historical research and community directed mapping assessing risk and vulnerabilities to environmental impacts listening to community concerns and priorities and help build a toolbox of resources and adaptation framework tailored to Tribal perspectives interests and needs. The position will assist with evaluating issues related to Tribal water policy and governance co-stewardship and co-management of ancestral and present-day Tribal land and help build capacity for Tribes to participate in environmental climate resilience and adaptation and natural resources planning processesor develop their own.


Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of program including meeting coordination research grant and project tracking administrative paperwork file maintenance reporting and travel and event planning and logistics.
  • Leads special projects and coordination and communication amongst the TCRC team and project partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with American Indian communities organizations and Tribal governments.
  • Develop and support partnerships with agencies universities and non-profit organizations.
  • Track existing grant deadlines and deliverables research and apply for external funding opportunities.
  • Maintain website and social media accounts create and curate newsletter content create other communication products and tools.
  • Plans and implements community engagement events and activities.

Bachelors degree in one of the agricultural biological engineering environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
