The Materials Testing Technician will support engineers with hands on material testing in our Marietta GA Super Lab and occasionally at customer sites. Candidates will have a 90-day training period conducting materials testing with proficiency review in testing techniques equipment and specifications used in Materials Testing. These materials tests are used to determine the properties of advanced materials used in high tech applications such as aerospace defense medical devices power generation fire arms forensic investigations etc.

The Materials Testing Technician will:

  • Learn and follow materials testing and setup procedures techniques and specifications
  • Learn and become proficient at various build and fabrication techniques such as measuring cutting drilling welding etc.
  • Follow procedures to set up materials tests with the guidance of engineers
  • Build and fabricate custom test rigs and fixtures as need
  • Learn and adhere to safety procedures
  • Review job requirements and set up required test equipment
  • Prepare work orders in accordance with QAP for testing to be performed
  • Perform test programs and procedures to written instructions
  • Interpret and evaluate results to applicable methods codes and specifications
  • Complete reports and documentation as required
  • Procure supplies for lab with appropriate approvals

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn materials testing techniques procedures and specifications

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to be hands on with tools machinery equipment and materials used in materials testing used in setting up tests and in fabricating test rigs and fixtures

  • High School Diploma

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime (generally 10-15% sometimes more) and a varying schedule as required

  • Ability and willingness to travel to job sites (construction power generation and manufacturing sites) around 20% on average

  • A valid drivers license with a good driving record

  • Good communication skills

  • Computer literacy

  • Ability to perform test programs and procedures to written instructions

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to lift 50lbs or more each day

  • Ability to set up and utilize the required test equipment

  • Ability to complete reports and documentation as required

  • Some experience in materials testing is desired but not required

Standard work hours are 8:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday with occasional travel (<10%) and overtime (10-15%).
