Indian River State College is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Laboratory Technician to support our Electrical Power Technology (EPT) program. In this hands-on role youll help maintain dynamic lab spaces assist students on their academic journey and foster meaningful connections with industry partners. JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Dean of Workforce Education the Laboratory Technician supports the Electrical Power Technology (EPT) program by maintaining lab spaces assisting with student registration and advising and coordinating instructional activities. The technician plays a key role in fostering employer partnerships preparing students for workforce opportunities and supporting the overall success of the EPT program and its students.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide general lab support including organizing materials and maintaining lab spaces in collaboration with faculty.
  • Assist students with program onboarding registration academic planning and advising coordination.
  • Monitor open lab sessions provide student guidance and promote completion of assigned work.
  • Help coordinate internship and industry engagement activities such as site tours and summer training sessions.
  • Facilitate communication with employer partners to support job interviews classroom guest speakers and hiring opportunities.
  • Track student progress collect relevant data and prepare summary reports as requested.
  • Share program-specific information and distribute academic plans to current and prospective students.
  • Support curriculum-related activities and events under the direction of faculty and administration.
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and external contacts to support workforce partnerships.
  • Maintain accurate student and program records with a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Support outreach efforts related to resume writing interview preparation and career development in coordination with Career Services.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone or email and direct communications to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one (1) year of related experience preferred ideally in a lab educational or technical support setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with students faculty and industry professionals.
  • Strong clerical and recordkeeping skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint); database or scheduling software experience a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Familiarity with academic programs and student services in a college or technical training environment preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
